Try a Family Staycation This Year!

Didn’t have a chance to get away this summer? A staycation (a vacation where you stay at home) can be a great way to relax and spend time with your loved ones without the hassle or cost of travel. You can make memories and bond with your family without leaving your home when you plan in advance. Families with young kids can try these activities to have a fun staycation this year:

  • Check out the sights in your hometown. Whether you explore a new place or attend a known and beloved event in your neighborhood, you can embrace the chance to connect with both your family and your community. Local sightseeing allows your child to get to know the space around them and learn to make sense of it.
  • Plan a movie night. Delicious, shareable snacks and an entertaining movie can bring your family together while staying comfortable on your own couch. Talking about the movie afterward can serve as good practice for your children to learn to express themselves.
  • Prepare fun projects to complete together. Make crafts with supplies already in your home, have everyone pitch in to cook a special meal, or play board games as a family. Offering praise when your child follows instructions can also encourage good behavior.
  • Remember to take a break! It can be tempting to give in to your usual, busy routine when you are at home. Commit to relaxing and spending quality time with your family for a successful staycation.

Why Choose Licensed Child Care?

Did you know that child care programs must be licensed and/or registered with Maryland’s Office of Child Care? It is illegal to operate without a license or registration, and these programs could offer dangerous child care.

Legal child care in Maryland means that the program has been approved by the Office of Child Care, passed a criminal background check, and receives yearly inspections to prove they meet health and safety requirements.

You can check that a program is licensed and/or registered online at CheckCCMD.org. Learn more about legal child care at marylandchild.org/care/.
