3 Steps to Accessing the 2023 Health and Safety Update

The Basic Health and Safety Training update for calendar year 2023 is now available. The training is FREE and only available online. Registration is NOT required. Click on the flyer on the left for instructions on how to access the training.

The training must be completed by March 31, 2024. All family child care providers and child care center staff are required to complete this annual update. Upon completion of the course, individuals will be awarded 1.5 hours of continued training. Staff hired during December 2023 must complete the 3-hour Basic Health and Safety training by March 31, 2024.

Upon successful completion of the training, the system will produce a “Certificate of Participation”. Please download and save the certificate. Please save it to your device, email it to yourself, or print multiple copies in case you need another copy. The Division of Early Childhood will not keep copies of your certificate on file.

Early childhood programs are like gardens, growing and nourishing wellness for children and families. Early childhood programs can also be a nourishing place for staff, where their health and well-being affects the quality of care and services for children and families. The work you do is important, and it can be both rewarding and demanding. Cultivating Wellness highlights strategies to cultivate your health and well-being. In the course, learn about the eight dimensions of staff wellness, discover activities that support them, and begin designing your personal wellness plan.

Access the Course
Log into the Individualized Professional Development (iPD) Portfolio to complete this course and earn continuing education units (CEUs) for professional development. Receive 0.1 CEU or one contact hour.

Guidance Regarding COVID-19 and Other Respiratory Illnesses in K-12 Schools and Child Care

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) and Maryland State Department of Education
(MSDE) recommend that schools and child care programs follow the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Operational Guidance for K-12 Schools and Early Care and Education Programs for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.

Portal Testing

New Child Care Provider Portal

Maryland State Department of Education is excited to announce the launch of its new Child Care Provider Portal!

All providers who participate in the Child Care Scholarship (CCS) program are required to register and use the Provider Portal for all scholarship related tasks, such as, but not limited to, invoicing, attendance, and scholarship enrollment.

Effective November 20, 2023, do not mail, email, or fax documents to the CCS program. All forms for the CCS program must be uploaded and submitted through the Child Care Provider Portal. In addition, providers not participating in the CCS program can register to use the Provider Portal to complete limited actions related to licensing requirements, (i.e., uploading documents).

DEADLINE APPROACHING!

The Maryland Department of Commerce announced that applications are now open for the second year of the Child Care Capital Support Revolving Loan Fund.

This fund is established in partnership with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), aiming to lend a helping hand to dedicated child care providers like you. No-interest loans are available for child care providers who are licensed by MSDE and participate in the Child Care Scholarship Program.

The application period is open through December 15, 2023, and we encourage you to seize this opportunity to strengthen your child care facilities.
