Proposed DEC Regulations

MSDE regulations are regularly evaluated and updated. The purpose of the review is to determine whether the regulations are necessary for the public interest, continue to be supported by statutory authority and judicial opinion, or are appropriate for amendment or repeal.

Guidance Regarding COVID-19 and Other Respiratory Illnesses in K-12 Schools and Child Care 

(Updated 7/11/23)

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) and Maryland State Department of Education
(MSDE) recommend that schools and child care programs follow the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Operational Guidance for K-12 Schools and Early Care and Education Programs for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.

The survey was emailed to random child care professionals on 08/03/23. The email is from Alexis Washington, with the subject line, “Research Study Opportunity: 15-Minute Survey for MSDE Early Educators with Thank You For Your Time”. The survey will take about 15 minutes, and all survey completers will receive a $25 thank you gift card. 

MSDE is working with a research team at the University of Virginia to conduct this survey to better understand the work of MSDE’s early childhood educators. 

The deadline to complete the survey is 09/21/2023.

OneStop is an interactive application portal that allows applicants to complete an application, upload the required documents and submit the application online. The Maryland OneStop dashboard is a user-friendly portal allowing applicants to confirm application receipt and status. Additional information will be coming soon!

FCC research project - participants wanted!

We are conducting a research study entitled, Identifying the physical activity and nutrition environment through self-assessment (NAP SACC) in Family Child Care Homes in the rural areas of the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

We are seeking to have 50 -70 current family child care providers who meet the following criteria complete a self-assessment tool looking at healthy lifestyles:

  • Are currently working as a licensed family/large family child care provider in the Eastern Shore of Maryland (Cecil, Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties) 
  • Have been providing care in your home for at least three years

If you would like to volunteer to participate, or if you have any questions, email Dr. Spencer or Dr. Cecil.
