Y Head Start Center Hosts Grand-Opening Ceremony
On March 19, 2018,
Mayor Catherine Pugh joined the Y in Central Maryland President and CEO John
Hoey, the Y Head Start Policy Chairperson Mathew Hamilton, Living Classrooms
Foundation Director of Family and Community Engagement Travis Street, Y Head
Start Parent Tierra Parker, community leaders, children, and families to
celebrate the grand-opening ceremony for the new Y Head Start Center at Fayette
Street.
The new state-of-the-art early childhood learning center serves 60
children from the East Baltimore Target Investment Zone.

community. Many members of the early childhood community are parents first. In
addition, they are dedicated advocates for school readiness, positive

 The Judy Center Partnership
In March, the
Judy Center Partnership held its annual conference at the Hyatt Regency
Chesapeake Bay in Cambridge, MD. The four-day event included presentations
about hot topics such as family engagement, early childhood mental health, community
outreach, partnerships, and more.
 Somerset County Judy Center Introduces New Play Initiative
The Somerset
County Judy Center Partnership has implemented a new initiative called "Fitness
Town", a partnership with the Somerset County Health Department and
Community Health Resources Grant that aims to provide a safe space for children
ages three to five. Located on a newly-renovated
basketball court behind Princess Anne Elementary School, “Fitness Town” was
designed as a play area where young children can use their
imaginations and build social skills.
