Election Results
Congratulations to County Executive-elect Will Jawando! It’s been an honor to serve alongside Councilmember Jawando for the past eight years as we have worked together to improve the lives of Montgomery County residents. I know he will serve in this new role with a deep understanding of the needs and challenges of our community.
I also want to congratulate the newly elected members of the County Council — Julie Yang, Jud Ashman, Scott Goldberg and Karla Silvestre — and all the members who will be returning.

Proposed 2030 Census Changes
The U.S. Census is a critical tool for determining how government resources are allocated at the federal, state and local levels. The proposed changes by the federal government would exclude from the count all residents who are not citizens or green-card holders, such as visa-holders and asylees, remove self‑reported race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation questions, and drop specific rules for counting people in nursing homes, shelters, foster care, and college housing.
These changes would strip Montgomery County of federal funds for a decade, limit our ability to provide services and advance equity, and inhibit data collection that helps us make informed long-term decisions. Montgomery County is one of the most diverse places in America and every resident deserves to be counted.
I was proud to join the County Executive and all my colleagues on the Council to speak against this proposed rule change.

Visiting UMD Journalism Students
I recently had the opportunity to speak with a journalism class at the University of Maryland and talk with students about government, politics and journalism. The students asked insightful questions about data centers, campaign finance reform and affordable housing.
As a former journalist, it was wonderful to meet some of the talented young people going into this field and help them understand the importance of local government. Student journalists have led the coverage of so many important stories and I look forward to seeing what they do next.

Constituent Corner
An Olney resident called my office about a broken water main system in his neighborhood. After several recent leaks, algae had started growing in the system. I flagged the urgent issue to WSSC’s team, and they sent a crew to identify and repair the issue within 24 hours.
If you need assistance with county services, please email my office or fill out this service request form.
