As we approach the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, my heart is with the families and friends of the nearly 3,000 people who were killed that day. Among the people who lost their lives, 11 were Montgomery County residents: William E. Caswell, Dr. Gerald P. Fisher, Capt. Lawrence D. Getzfred, Michele M. Heidenberger, Angela M. Houtz, Teddington H. Moy, Lt. Darin H. Pontell, Scott A. Powell, Todd H. Reuben, Patricia J. Statz and Ernest M. Willcher.
To honor these individuals and mark this somber occasion, Montgomery County and the City of Rockville will hold a ceremony tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. at Courthouse Square Park in downtown Rockville. The event is free and open to the public.

Congratulations to Kareem's Lebanese Kitchen on their grand opening!
This new addition to the Rio shopping center in Gaithersburg has a great vibe and plenty of delicious vegetarian options. For three generations, Chef Eido and his family have brought Lebanese food, culture and hospitality to kitchens around the world, and I’m so glad that they’ve chosen Montgomery County for their first Maryland location.
I’m already planning my next visit!

Rosh Hashana, the Jewish new year, begins tomorrow at sunset. I hope that everyone celebrating is able to enjoy a delicious meal, time with loved ones, and a chance to reflect on their hopes for year 5787. Wishing everyone a sweet new year!

The Advisory Commission on Policing (ACP) of Montgomery County is holding a public forum on Monday, September 14 at 6:30 p.m. The Commission will present on the ACP's current and future work and conduct a listening session to receive feedback and hear from residents about their vision of public safety in the County. The event will be held in the Montgomery County Council’s third floor hearing room. If you cannot make it to the meeting, you can provide feedback online through the ACP’s “Submit your Suggestions” portal.

The annual Silver Spring Jazz Fest is this weekend! Headlining the event is Grammy-nominated Cuban musician Cimafunk, who has built an international following through music that combines genres and connects Cuban rhythms with contemporary funk. In addition to two music stages, the free event will feature a brewery garden, games for families, a raffle for VIP seats, and a chance to enjoy all that downtown Silver Spring has to offer.
You can find more information about the festival and see the entire lineup of Saturday’s performances online.

A resident in Ashton called me to report a sinkhole on Ashton Road. I flagged this hazard to the State Highway Administration and they immediately sent a crew to repair it. By the end of the day, the crew had finished covering the sinkhole with a steel plate and asphalt.
If you need assistance with county services, please email my office or fill out this service request form.

Montgomery County is kicking off National Hispanic Heritage Month with a Unity Festival in Wheaton on Saturday, September 19. The free, family-friendly festival will bring the community together for an afternoon of live music, food, cultural activities, and a celebration of Hispanic and Latino cultures and traditions. More than one-fifth of Montgomery County’s residents are Hispanic or Latino, and this festival is a chance to celebrate cultural traditions and the rich diversity of our community.
