Montgomery County to Host 5th Annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration on Sunday, May 3

The Montgomery County Office of Community Partnerships (OCP) and the Asian American Health Initiative (AAHI) will host the fifth annual Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month celebration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, at Seneca Valley High School, located at 19401 Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown. The 2026 event has been planned with assistance from 18 local nonprofits serving the AAPI community.

This free, family-friendly event is open to the public. Registration is not required.

The celebration coincides with National Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, which recognizes the generations of AAPI individuals who have enriched the nation’s history and continue to play a vital role in its future. According to U.S. Census Bureau data, 16% of Montgomery County residents identify as Asian, and 0.1% identify as Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander.

“We are one of the most diverse jurisdictions in the nation, and that diversity is strengthened by the many Asian American and Pacific Islander communities that enrich our quality of life in every neighborhood,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “During May, we celebrate the contributions our AAPI neighbors have made to Montgomery County’s past, present, and future. I encourage all residents to join us in this community program, and others held throughout the year.”

The event will feature activities for all ages, including:

  • Health fair with blood tests, eye and dental screenings, and more.
  • Cultural performances, including traditional dance and martial arts.
  • Children’s crafts and games.
  • Remarks from community leaders.
  • AAPI food vendors.
  • Henna tattoos and face painting.

The Office of Community Partnerships works to strengthen relationships between the Montgomery County Government and its residents, with a focus on underserved and emerging communities. For more information, visit the OCP website.

The AAHI, part of the County's Department of Health and Human Services, works to improve the health and well-being of AAPI residents through equity, community engagement, and data-driven approaches. More information about the event is available on the AAHI website.
