Budget Priorities: Seeking Your Input

Montgomery County residents are facing an affordability crisis. Housing costs are rising, utility bills are skyrocketing and thousands of our neighbors are unemployed or worried about their job security because of the Trump administration.

The County Executive’s proposed $8 billion budget for FY27 does little to ease the burden families are feeling. I am deeply skeptical of the proposed tax increases. A 6.1% property tax increase and a 3.3% income tax rate would place an even heavier burden on residents who are already stretched thin.

My focus throughout the budget process will be to prioritize our social safety net — including public health and safety, housing and education. I am committed to ensure every voice is heard and every concern is considered.

To that end, I invite you to take this brief survey so you can share your priorities. I want to hear your thoughts as we work to ensure the budget reflects the needs of our residents.

Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts.

ICE Out Act Update

Earlier this week the Council held a public hearing on the ICE Out Act, legislation I introduced that will prohibit private immigration detention facilities from opening in Montgomery County.

I deeply appreciate the many residents who took the time to testify and share why this legislation is so critical. Over the next several weeks, the ICE Out Act will continue through the legislative process. This bill is scheduled to be heard by the Economic Development Committee on April 10.

I will use every power of my office to protect our neighbors, defend due process and uphold our Constitutional rights.

Supporting Small Businesses in Long Branch

Strong stores build strong communities. I was honored to join Governor Wes Moore and Congressman Jamie Raskin in Long Branch for the announcement of $3 million in state funds to expand Montgomery County’s facade improvement program along the Purple Line corridor.

These funds will directly benefit small businesses, helping them upgrade their storefronts and letting everyone know they are open for business. When the Purple Line opens, Long Branch will be in a stronger position to thrive.

I want to thank Governor Moore and Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development for helping us grow Montgomery County’s economy one storefront at a time.

Celebrating ArtStream

ArtStream has been transforming the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities for two decades, helping them find their voice, build their confidence and perform their art.

It was a joy to honor their staff, volunteers and performers at the Council.

Congratulations on 20 incredible years — here’s to many more!

Acoustics and Ales

The Acoustics and Ales event at Northwood Park was a smash hit! Montgomery Parks did a terrific job — and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the music, the brews and the great vibes.

Be sure to check out the dates for future Acoustics and Ales in Germantown and Long Branch.

Constituent Corner

During recent storms, residents whose children walk to school along Piney Branch Road contacted my office to request better sidewalk treatment during storms. My office contacted the Maryland State Highway Administration, which cleared the road to ensure safe walking routes are maintained.

If you need help navigating Montgomery County government, fill out this form and my team and I will assist you.

Serious about Safety

Did You Know?

Montgomery Parks has officially opened its newest skate park at Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park in Clarksburg. The park is designed to accommodate skateboarders, in-line skaters, scooters and bikers of all ages and abilities. This is Montgomery Parks’ fourth skate park and the first one located upcounty.

The new skate park is part of the larger ongoing renovation of Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park, which will include a new playground, carousel, walking trails and more. The ribbon cutting for the full park renovation will take place in May.
