Last week I joined MCPD Chief Marc Yamada, MCFRS Chief Corey Smedley and our public safety leaders for National Night Out, an annual event focused on creating and strengthening positive relationships between residents and local law enforcement.
Events across the county featured safety demonstrations, youth-focused programming and informational resources to ensure that all of us feel safe in our community.
My appreciation to our police, firefighters, EMTs and all emergency response personnel for keeping our communities safe for everyone.

Did you know that more than 55 businesses have utilized the MOVE Act since it became law one year ago? These businesses span sectors including healthcare, education, real estate and technology – with more than a dozen being start-ups.
The Make Office Vacancy Extinct (MOVE) Act codified and expanded a successful grant program designed to support businesses moving to and expanding within Montgomery County.
I look forward to continuing my work on the Economic Development Committee to make Montgomery County an easier place to open and grow a business. You can learn more and apply for a MOVE grant on the program’s webpage.

Kemp Mill has a new pedestrian bridge to provide safer access over a tributary to the Northwest Branch. This new accessway connects segments of an existing walking path that had become difficult to cross due to a growing creek bed.
I had a great time celebrating this milestone with members of the Kemp Mill Civic Association, who had been working on this project for many years as a tribute to their late neighbor Nicki Toys. Thank you to the Kemp Mill community for being good neighbors and leading by example.

I recently joined Rainbow Community Development Center (RCDC) for a food distribution event in partnership with Community Bridges. RCDC is an incredible organization that provides critical safety net services to our most vulnerable neighbors.
Volunteers and students in Community Bridges’ flagship Girls Program also joined me in packing meals for over 150 families. It was a meaningful day of service, and I am beyond proud to live in our caring and compassionate community.

Congratulations to Drew Baker, Lisa Hinton and Ashli Johnson for the grand opening of Burnt Hill Farm. The new vineyard and tasting room is the cornerstone of a 117-acre property in the county’s beautiful Agricultural Reserve, offering locally grown wines and picturesque views.
Congratulations to the team – may business be fruitful for many years to come.

A Rockville resident contacted me after encountering antisemitic graffiti on a pedestrian bridge while running. My office flagged it for the State Highway Administration, and the resident informed me that it had been removed the next day.

The Maryland Insurance Administration now has a Health Coverage Assistance Team. This resource was developed last year to help Marylanders navigate health coverage questions and challenges that may impact access to care.
The H-CAT staff can help you and your loved ones answer questions about what’s covered under a plan, find a health care service provider (including for mental health and substance use needs), file a claim, and address any health insurance concerns.
