 Montgomery County will celebrate Juneteenth with a weeklong series of events from Saturday, June 14 through Saturday, June 21, including its 28th Annual Juneteenth Celebration at BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. Juneteenth, officially recognized as a Federal and County holiday on Thursday, June 19, marks the historic day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.
 The Montgomery County Government, and programs that impact County residents, will have holiday schedule and program changes for the observance of Juneteenth on Thursday, June 19.

 The County’s minimum wage will increase on July 1, 2025, in accordance with County law that ties annual wage adjustments to inflation. The change affects employers of all sizes across Montgomery County.
 The annual Rockville “Suds and Soles” 5K run will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, at the Square in Downtown Rockville. The race is presented through a partnership of the Montgomery County Road Runners Club (MCRRC) and the City of Rockville. It is open to all ages and will be followed by a post-race party, where runners ages 21 and older can try free beverage samples from local breweries. There will also be kids’ activities, live music and refreshments.

In celebration of Father’s Day and the positive role of Black male leadership in the community, the Gaithersburg-Rockville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., donated "The Story of Kappa Alpha Psi, 6th Edition," to every Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) branch. This special event included remarks from Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, MCPL Director Darcell Graham, Kappa Youth and Community Foundation President Henry Hailstock, Kappa Alpha Psi Past Polemarch Eldbridge James and Marquise Evans, a former student of the local Kappa Guide Right student program.
The Wheaton Urban District is thrilled to announce the return of its popular TGIF Summer Concert Series, taking place every 2nd and 4th Friday, June through August, at Marian Fryer Town Plaza (2424 Reedie Drive, Wheaton, MD).  On Saturday, June 14, join Montgomery Parks as we start our summer season off by connecting to our roots, literally, with giant man-made mud pits. Thanks to Black Hill Discovery Center and the Northern Parks Region, the lawn of Woodstock Equestrian Special Park will be turned into mud pools for attendees to cool off, splash and jump around in. Check out the giant mud slide, play around the mud volcano, and make mud pies at the pop-up kitchen.
 The 16th Annual “Silver Spring Blues Week” will conclude with the free all-day festival from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, on two stages on Ellsworth Drive featuring Sue Foley, Daryl Davis and many other artists. The festival on June 14 will be at 920 Ellsworth Drive, between Fenton Street and Georgia Avenue. The Blues Festival and Blues Week are produced by Silver Spring Town Center, Inc.
 This year's free Safety Forum will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17. The event is in-person, but a live-stream option is available. This session includes senior skits, public official presentations and information, a yoga demonstration and Q&A opportunities! Registration is required.
Job seekers 50 and older could benefit from a free virtual job fair planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17. Age-friendly employers are also being sought to participate in the event, which is co-sponsored by Montgomery County Government and the Jewish Council for the Aging of Greater Washington.  The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold a public open house from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18 at Walter Johnson High School to discuss the North Bethesda Flash Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Planning Study. The in-person open house will focus on the North Bethesda BRT corridor, which is planned to run from Westfield Montgomery Mall to the North Bethesda Metro Station (formerly White Flint). MCDOT is seeking public input which may influence the outcome of the project.

 The Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) has released the ninth episode of its podcast series “Spirited Discussions: A Podcast by Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services.” The new episode, “Top Ten Bestselling Beers, Wines and Spirits,” highlights the top-selling products in each category across the County. The lists are based on the number of cases sold through the ABS wholesale division in the past year. Sales figures include purchases made by licensed establishments such as restaurants, beer and wine stores, specialty venues and sales from the 27 ABS retail stores.
 Montgomery County's Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is preparing to launch a major transformation of the MCDOT Ride On bus system through the Ride On Reimagined Service and Implementation Plan. This plan marks the most comprehensive update in Ride On's history and is a result of years of planning, community input and coordination with our regional partners. Ride On’s usual May service change has been moved to Sunday, June 29 to ensure a seamless rollout and better alignment with the implementation of WMATA’s Better Bus Network, also launching on June 29. The new transportation network will introduce streamlined connections to Metro, as well as route and timing adjustments based on public feedback and travel patterns.
