Raising the Pride Flag

Happy Pride Month! After attending celebrations across the county, I was delighted to host Montgomery County’s seventh annual Pride flag raising in Rockville last week. It warmed my heart to be joined by so many community members, advocates and local leaders from Rockville and Annapolis, as well as Congressman Jamie Raskin.

As the Trump Administration tries to erase LGBTQ+ people from this country’s history and culture, we must continue to uplift our community and embrace the rich diversity that makes Montgomery County a beautiful place to call home. I hope you will join me at upcoming events as we continue celebrating Pride.

Utilities Assistance

Are your electric, gas or water bills piling up? If so, you’re not alone.

I recently hosted a webinar to discuss the financial assistance available to pay your utilities. Representatives from Pepco, WSSC Water, Washington Gas and the Maryland Public Service Commission were on hand to provide important information and answer questions.

If you were unable to attend the webinar, you can watch the recording on YouTube and view the informational materials provided. You can also find more information about utility assistance and other county resources on my website’s resources page.

Congratulations Graduates!

Congratulations to the MCPS class of 2025! I know that you’ll continue leading with passion, compassion and integrity.

I was honored to be the keynote speaker at both Montgomery Blair and John F. Kennedy High Schools’ commencement ceremonies this year and share these joyous occasions with so many students.

From attending college or going into the military, to heading into the workforce or still figuring it out – I know our graduates are prepared for the world. Congratulations MCPS graduates!

Riverworks Art Center

The Taste of Riverworks Art Center was terrific! This small but mighty organization is making its mark in Poolesville and across the county. Their vision is to help Poolesville and our Upcounty region become an arts destination for visitors across the D.C. region and beyond.

Thank you Sandy Wright and David Therriault for founding Riverworks and sharing your passion with the community.

MCDOT Safety Day

I had a great time celebrating safe streets at MCDOT’s second annual Pedestrian Safety Day. This fun event allows the community to learn more about traffic safety in an engaging, festival environment.

Thank you to the MCDOT and the Vision Zero Youth Ambassadors for organizing the event and to MCPS and Montgomery County Recreation for co-sponsoring it. You can learn more about Pedestrian Safety, Safe Routes to School and the Vision Zero Ambassadors program on MCDOT's website.

Constituent Corner

The managers of Cedarbrook Pool in Kensington reached out to me ahead of their summer opening. After renovating part of the facility to celebrate the pool’s 75th season, they were concerned that the final inspection would not be completed in time for them to open on Memorial Day weekend. My team reached out to DPS and DHHS, and they were able to work with the pool’s owners to get the project over the finish line.

If you need help navigating local government, fill out this form and my team will assist you.

Did You Know?

Montgomery County’s Public Library system now has a mobile app. The app provides convenient, on-the-go access to a broad range of library resources and services for residents of all ages and can be downloaded on the Apple and Google Play stores. You can use the app to search the catalog, access digital materials, view upcoming events and easily get in touch with your local library branch.
