This week, the County Executive discusses the importance of being an advocate and supporter to the LGBTQ+ community and standing with immigrants in Montgomery County as they are targeted by the federal administration for illegal detention and deportation. He also acknowledges this week's honoring of the men and women who died while experiencing or after they had experienced homelessness. The County Executive also celebrates the grand opening of the new 6th District MCPD station, Bethesda's high ranking on a list of best places to live in the nation and community gatherings that focus on health, education and community activism.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Councilmember Evan Glass were joined by Congressman Jamie Raskin, LGBTQ+ community leaders, elected officials and community members recently for the seventh annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony to kick off Pride Month. The event’s keynote speakers included Yael Astor, an inclusion specialist with Montgomery County Public Schools’ Office of Curriculum & Instructional Programs, and Phillip Alexander Downie, executive director for the MoCo Pride Center. Speakers, Councilmembers and LGBTQ+ community leaders arrived in the Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s #RideWithPride Ride On bus, which will be serving residents on routes across the County throughout the month of June. This is the third year Montgomery County has supported a Pride bus. The bus displayed a new design, featuring a kaleidoscope of color with the theme “Radiating Love” and Ride with Pride in neon lights.

Department of Transportation Encourages Residents to Take the New Hampshire Flash Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Survey

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is upgrading transit along the New Hampshire Avenue corridor by implementing a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. The planning study for the New Hampshire Avenue Flash BRT is exploring options to provide higher quality, faster, and more reliable transit service in the corridor. Several alternatives have been developed and evaluated. Please complete this survey to provide us with feedback on these alternatives. The survey will close on June 30. At the end of the survey, you will have the opportunity to enter your email for a chance to win a $50 gift card.

Join the Fun: 2025 TGIF Summer Concert Series at Marian Fryer Town Plaza Through August!

The Wheaton Urban District is thrilled to announce the return of its highly anticipated TGIF Summer Concert Series, taking place every second and forth Friday, June through August, at Marian Fryer Town Plaza (2424 Reedie Drive, Wheaton, MD). These family-friendly events are free to the public and will run from 5 to 8 p.m., rain or shine. Each evening kicks off with a DJ happy hour set at 5:00 p.m., followed by live music from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., showcasing a dynamic mix of musical genres that reflect the vibrancy and diversity of the Wheaton community.

County Leaders Celebrate Grand Opening of 6th District Police Station in Gaithersburg

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, County Council President Kate Stewart, other Councilmembers, and State and local officials joined together for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the 6th District Police Station on June 2. The new Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) station replaces an outdated facility with a new, sustainably designed, energy-efficient building. It is located at 222 Paramount Park Drive in Gaithersburg and serves the Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village communities.

New DPS Podcast Episode Focuses on Building Safety and Fire Department Access

The Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services has released a new podcast episode, “Building Safety: Fire Department Access.” It highlights the plan review process's role in ensuring fire department access to buildings in the County. This is the 26th episode of the DPS podcast, hosted by DPS Customer Support and Outreach Division Chief Gail Lucas, featuring DPS Plan Reviewer Marie LaBaw, who reviews access plans during land development and oversees fire lane documentation in the County.

Ride On Bus Service Changes on Sunday, June 29

MCDOT Service Changes

Montgomery County's Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is preparing to launch a major transformation of the MCDOT Ride On bus system through the Ride On Reimagined Service and Implementation Plan. This plan marks the most comprehensive update in Ride On's history and is a result of years of planning, community input and coordination with our regional partners. Ride On’s usual May service change has been moved to Sunday, June 29 to ensure a seamless rollout and better alignment with the implementation of WMATA’s Better Bus Network, also launching on June 29. The new transportation network will introduce streamlined connections to Metro, as well as route and timing adjustments based on public feedback and travel patterns.

'Helpful Tips for Living & Learning about People with Dementia' Training Offered by ARC of Montgomery County June 9

Join the ARC of Montgomery County for "Caregivers are Superheroes! Helpful Hints for Living & Learning about People with Dementia," from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, June 9. This is a supportive and informative training session designed for caregivers, respite clients of ARC and ARC members. The training session will take place at the ARC's office at 7362 Calhoun Place in Rockville. The speaker for the session will be Ruth Kershner, LCSW-C, CDP, CADDCT, manager of Montgomery County Health and Human Services' Caregiver Support Program. The event is free but registration is required.

16th Annual Silver Spring Blues Festival Offers Numerous Free Events June 8-14, Free All-Day Festival on Saturday, June 14

The 16th Annual “Silver Spring Blues Week” will turn Downtown Silver Spring into a week-long party of music from June 8-165, with festivities on Sunday, June 8. The week will conclude with the free all-day festival from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, on two stages on Ellsworth Drive featuring Sue Foley, Daryl Davis and many other artists. The festival on June 14 will be at 920 Ellsworth Drive, between Fenton Street and Georgia Avenue. The Blues Festival and Blues Week are produced by Silver Spring Town Center, Inc.
