On this special episode of our Inside Recreation podcast, we recognize and take a look back at the career of Director Robin Riley as she retired from Montgomery County Recreation after 40 years of service to the department.
From her time joining as seasonal staff in 1981 to working her way to serving as director since December 2018, Robin spoke about the experiences and lessons she learned throughout her career in recreation and the optimism as she feels for the future of the department and the field of recreation.
Montgomery County Recreation’s outdoor pool season is underway! During the pre-season, now through June 13, outdoor pool hours are noon to 6 p.m. on weekends only. Make sure to check out the outdoor pool schedule for the rest of the summer at mocorec.com/outdoorpools.
Daily admission is $5 for County residents under the age of 18, $7 for adults and $6 for seniors (ages 55 and over). A driver's license or proof of residency is required at the admission counter. General admission for non-County residents is $20. Summer pool passes are available for purchase and are valid through Sept. 1.
When visiting the pool, children under 12 years old must be accompanied and cared for by a person 16 years or older. Learn more about Montgomery County Recreation's pool rules and regulations and follow these important tips to ensure safety around the water.

Make sure to sign up for Rec Alerts and check the website to get real time updates. When inclement weather hits or we reach capacity, Montgomery County Recreation pools may close for admission or be on a delayed opening. Be prepared for last-minute changes and emergencies.
Celebrate Independence Day with Montgomery County Recreation at our two free firework displays on Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5!
Friday, July 4: Germantown Glory at South Germantown Recreational Park, 18041 Central Park Circle, Boyds. Live music will begin at 7 p.m. featuring Central City Orchestra. On-site parking is available.
Saturday, July 5: Mid-County Sparkles at Albert Einstein High School, 11135 Newport Mill Road, Kensington. Live music will begin at 7 p.m. featuring Downtown Sound. Only handicap parking is available at the high school. Free parking and shuttle service will be available from Westfield Wheaton starting at 6:30 p.m.
The fireworks displays will begin approximately at 9:15 p.m. at both celebrations. The timing of the fireworks may change due to weather conditions. Lawn chairs, blankets and coolers are welcome at both events. There will be food vendors at both locations.
The celebrations are family-friendly events. The County prohibits alcoholic beverages and smoking. Pets are also not allowed.
Already have a pass? Remember to renew it before Tuesday, July 1! Just visit the front desk at any MoCoRec location to get your pass renewed. Make sure to bring your proof of residency and update your account information.

Summer programs and activities are tailored to a variety of interests, skill levels and ages, and include fitness, sports, visual and performing arts, therapeutic recreation, adult 55+ programming and more. There are hundreds of programs that promote an active, healthier lifestyle.

The 2025 Maryland Senior Olympics are just kicking off and there's a wide variety of events to showcase your skills! From soccer to badminton to shuffleboard and more, there's an event that everyone can enjoy. You don't have to be a world class athlete to compete as the Maryland Senior Olympics' motto is, "To participate is to win!"
Montgomery County Recreation serves as a partner with the Maryland Senior Olympics and encourages residents to participate not only for the love of sport, but to also enjoy a personal challenge and the fellowship and friendship with other participants and volunteers.
