Despite Donald Trump withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord, Montgomery County will remain on the forefront of addressing the climate crisis we are experiencing.
My belief in a greener future was bolstered during a visit to the Bethesda Green Youth Climate Summit, where young people rolled up their sleeves to find solutions to our pollution problems. The students who attended embodied the spirit of “think globally, act locally.” These young people know we are in a climate crisis and I am extremely proud of their leadership.

One-third of deaths by suicide in Montgomery County involve a firearm. That’s why I passed the Suicide Awareness and Firearm Education (SAFE) Act in 2023, which requires gun stores in the county to have information available about mental health resources and safe firearm storage.
I recently spoke with The Baltimore Banner about the effort to pass similar legislation at the state level. As the nation deals with a historic mental health crisis and increasing suicide rates, it is our obligation to do something about it. I am heartened that members of the General Assembly in Annapolis are taking up the mantle.

I recently attended a Braver Angels workshop hosted by Reverend Emily Hart at Salem United Methodist Church in Brookeville. Braver Angels is a civic organization that aims to build bridges between people divided over politics. People from across the political spectrum came together to discuss our shared values, the challenges we face, and areas of common ground on which we can work together.
In this hyper-polarized political climate, it is more important than ever to lead with empathy, humility and kindness as we navigate difficult conversations with neighbors and loved ones.

Hememics Biotechnologies in Gaithersburg is doing big things. I first met the company’s leaders in 2023 while on an economic trade mission to Asia, and it was wonderful to see the work they are doing here at home.
Nested in the county’s Life Sciences Corridor, Hememics Biotechnologies produces innovative diagnostic testing devices made with graphene-based sensor technology to deliver precise results. What an asset to have their growing company here in Montgomery County!
It was a great day at William Tyler Page Elementary School in Silver Spring to celebrate the launch of the Literacy Book Reading Program.
The kids were beyond excited to have the first book vending machine in Montgomery County. The vending machine has over 600 books, with classes competing to see who can read the most. A big thanks to the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc for sponsoring the program and finding new ways to make learning fun!

A Germantown resident wrote to my office because he had not received the senior property tax credit that he was owed. My team contacted the county’s Finance Department on his behalf, and the resident wrote us back to say that someone from the department had called him that same day. He and his wife were incredibly appreciative that we were able to take “such quick and effective action.”
If you need help navigating local government, please fill out this service request form and my team and I will work to assist you.
The Montgomery County Police Department has expanded eligibility for the Private Security Camera Incentive Program to the entire county. You can get reimbursed up to $250 for a camera installed at your residence, and businesses can get reimbursed for up to five cameras. Footage is not shared with police unless you choose to integrate your camera via MoCoConnect.
You can learn more and apply for a rebate on the program’s webpage.
