Council Passes Bring Your Own Bag (BYOB) Bill
The Council recently passed the Bring Your Own Bag (BYOB) Bill, which will ban single-use plastic carryout bags. The revenue generated from the BYOB Bill will fund vital water quality protection projects in our community to build a cleaner future for Montgomery County. This new law will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2026.
Strengthening Tenant Protections
As the Councilmember representing the district with the most renters, I was proud to cosponsor new legislation that would enhance tenant protections. The proposed legislation, introduced by Councilmember Kristin Mink, would hold landlords accountable for repeat housing code violations. This bill continues our commitment to ensuring all our residents have a safe place to call home. A public hearing is scheduled for March 4. I want to thank Councilmember Mink for her leadership on this legislation.

Expanding eligibility for Homeowners Property Tax Credit
The Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee recently introduced legislation that would expand eligibility for the County’s Supplement to the Homeowners Property Tax Credit (HOTC). The HOTC increases stability for our residents, especially seniors on fixed incomes and those who are the most burdened by increasing assessments by helping them stay in their homes. If passed, this bill will provide a needed property tax credit to more homeowners on limited incomes. A public hearing is scheduled for March 4.

Black History Month
This year’s Black History Month commemoration at the County Council celebrated the national theme, "African Americans and Labor." In Montgomery County, we honor the invaluable contributions of African American workers whose dedication and leadership continue to uplift our nation every single day. Their historical advocacy for fair wages and workers’ rights has strengthened our community and inspired progress. We celebrate this legacy every day by working to advance equity and justice for all.

Isiah “Ike” Leggett Executive Office Building Renaming Ceremony
I was honored to join the Executive Office Building renaming ceremony in honor of County Executive Isiah "Ike" Leggett. Throughout his 28 years as County Executive, Council President and Councilmember, Ike Leggett made sure our government is one that works for everyone. This dedication reinforces his legacy: his commitment to public service, equity, and his strong belief that as public officials we work for every Montgomery County resident. This is an honorable and fitting tribute to County Executive Leggett.
