Supporting Our Federal Workers

Montgomery County is home to many federal agencies and tens of thousands of federal employees, many of whom are on the cutting edge of scientific and medical research. In addition, there are thousands more federal contractors and nonprofit personnel who live and work in our community. Amidst policy changes and executive orders from the new administration, I will continue fighting to protect our hard-working civil servants from threats and political attacks. No matter what happens at the federal level, we will continue to support these hard-working professionals.

Protecting Our Immigrant Community

Immigrants across this country are scared. They are scared to report crimes. They are scared to seek help. They are scared that their families will be torn apart.

In Montgomery County we will continue to help, support and protect our immigrant neighbors as we do all of our residents. You can find more information about local efforts to strengthen our immigrant community on this webpage and sign up to receive updates about immigration from my office.

Muslim American Heritage Month

Thank you to the Idara-e-Jaferia mosque in Burtonsville for celebrating Montgomery County’s first ever Muslim American Heritage Month. The community center works year-round to support neighbors by organizing food distributions, health fairs, refugee support and interfaith dialogues.

Their love and commitment to our diverse community is always appreciated, and is even more important in this moment.

JCA Arts

I recently visited the Jewish Council for the Aging (JCA) to admire the wonderful artwork created by members of the Samuel J. Gorlitz Kensington Clubs, which are designed to support adults who are in the early stages of diagnosed memory loss.

In addition to providing meaningful activities, the clubs also offer a break for hard working and loving caregivers. The JCA Kensington Clubs are located in Rockville, White Oak and Germantown.

Winter Storm Information

I know that many residents have found it challenging to find information about the local response to winter weather. The online winter storm information portal is a great resource to help stay informed this season. In addition to finding up-to-date information on weather-related delays and closures, you can also use the site to determine who is responsible for plowing your street, check the snow removal status of a particular street or area, and submit a service request for any unplowed street or unshoveled sidewalk.

Remember to clear your sidewalk within 24 hours after the end of a storm — county law requires it — and please reach out to me if you or your neighbors need help this winter.

Constituent Corner

A homeowner in Ashton reached out for information about the Water Quality Protection Charge on his property tax bill. While he appreciated that the revenue is used to maintain clean water in Montgomery County, he felt that the measures he took to mitigate runoff and water pollution on his property were not accounted for when calculating the charge. My team contacted DEP on his behalf, and they visited the property and helped him apply for a tax credit.

The homeowner received the maximum allowable credit and thanked my office for their assistance.

You can learn more about the county’s Water Quality Protection Charge online, and as always, you can fill out this form to request help with a county agency or department.
