I was proud to honor our veterans at tribute events across Montgomery County, including the Bethesda Veterans Day Observance and a special Council proclamation commemorating Operation Green Light. The best way we can honor our veterans at home is to stand by them and ensure they are being supported. I was proud to support measures at the Council this year that reflect the County’s commitment to veterans and their families, including legislation to increase opportunities for Veteran-Owned Small Businesses and a new property tax credit for disabled veterans. With over 35,000 veterans in our community, we owe all our veterans a great debt of gratitude for their service to our country as we stand on the broad shoulders of their sacrifice. Thank you for your service.

$10 million Job Creation Fund opens
Applications are now open for the Job Creation Fund, offering eligible Montgomery County employers up to $500,000 in grant funding to support their growth and expansion. Under the grant, eligible companies creating at least five new full-time, permanent jobs with a base annual salary of $100,000 can receive $10,000 to $12,000 per new job created. I was proud to spearhead this effort in partnership with the Executive Branch and the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation to allocate a total of $20 million to three complementary economic investments, including the Job Creation Fund, the Innovation Fund and the Founders Equity Fund.

Katie Ledecky Day
We recently had the privilege of honoring legendary Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky by unveiling an honorary road marker, "Katie Ledecky Lane," outside of her alma mater, Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda and declaring the day as “Katie Ledecky Day.”
Katie is a hometown hero and the best female athlete in the world. She has remained at the top of her sport for more than a decade and has already broken 16 world records and 37 national records. She also holds Olympic champion medals at every distance from 200 meters to 1,500 meters, and became the most decorated U.S. female Olympian of all time at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her greatness as an athlete is enhanced by her goodness as a person. On top of her incredible achievements, she is a role model who inspires us with her commitment, determination and grace.

Scotland AME Church celebrates 100 years
I was honored to join the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Scotland AME Zion Church, which was hosted by Martin Luther King III, the eldest son of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. With a long and storied history of overcoming obstacles, including the devastating flooding of July 2019, this 100th anniversary is a momentous opportunity to acknowledge our shared history and celebrate this church, its legacy families and the community that has built it up. It was a privilege to come together with the community to honor the last 100 years – the remarkably resilient Scotland community that withstood every obstacle imaginable – and look ahead to this historic church’s second century.

Strathmore Square Housing
The newest mixed-use housing development is now open in North Bethesda, offering access to Metro and world-class arts. The one-of-a-kind development at Strathmore Square is a unique partnership with Metro, Strathmore and the Amazon Housing Equity Fund, among others, and offers 22% affordable units and quality housing along a transit line. This is Metro’s fourth transit-oriented development ribbon-cutting, with 1,300 units delivered this year. The project was made possible by the More Housing at Metrorail Stations Act, legislation I sponsored with former Councilmember Hans Riemer in 2020, which created incentives for housing on Metro station properties. This exciting new development provides walkable, accessible living with nearby amenities, retail and green space.
