Electric Leafblowers

Over the summer Montgomery County prohibited the sale of gas-powered leaf blowers. I led this effort at the council last year in order to lessen our dependence on fossil fuels and to reduce the use of overly loud machines in our neighborhoods.

As we transition personal and professional lawn equipment from gas to electric, the county has created an incentive program that will help residents and lawn care businesses make the shift. The program will allow county residents to receive a $100 rebate for the purchase of an electric leaf blower and for qualifying businesses to receive up to $1,500.

You can learn more about the care and ease of using electric leafblowers, and other ecologically friendly lawn care tips at a free webinar tonight (Thursday October 24) at 7:00 pm.

Katie Ledecky Lane

Katie Ledecky is the most decorated woman in U.S. Olympic history. With 14 medals, including 9 gold, she is one of the greatest Olympians of all time. Now she has one more accolade to add to the list: a street named in her honor.

I was thrilled to recognize the Bethesda native as we officially renamed the street outside of her alma mater Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart. We celebrated Katie’s incredible work in and out of the pool, as a role model and philanthropist.

I look forward to ensuring that the traffic along Katie Ledecky Lane is free-flowing, with drivers staying safely in their lanes.

Riverworks Arts Center

Riverworks Arts Center is an upcounty gem. Founded in 2022, they currently host classes and events at three sites across Poolesville, but are working to establish a permanent home in the beautiful Agriculture Reserve.

They are currently raising funds to turn an historic 1820s church into a state-of-the-art performing arts center and gallery space. The vision is to transform small-town Poolesville into an arts destination for visitors from the D.C. region and beyond.

Last week, I joined Councilmember Balcombe and partners from District 15 to celebrate Riverworks Art Center’s accomplishments to date and their vision for the future!

Discussion with Secretary Day

Maryland’s Secretary of Housing & Community Development Jake Day recently visited Rockville to discuss the housing shortage that exists in Montgomery County and across Maryland.

I greatly appreciate the Moore-Miller administration’s attention to ensuring that our current and future residents can afford to call Montgomery County home.

Constituent Corner

A Silver Spring resident reached out to me after she received a letter from the Department of Finance informing her that she overpaid her property taxes 10 years ago. The resident qualified for a tax rebate but she was unable to prove she paid the excess tax because the payment occurred before the required 7-year record period. My team contacted the Department of Finance and they quickly informed the resident she would be receiving her full rebate.

If you have an issue you need help with, please fill out our service request form and my team will be in touch.
