Get ready for early voting!

The 2024 Presidential General Election is around the corner. There are many ways to cast your ballot, including early voting, vote-by-mail and voting at your local polling place on Election Day (Nov. 5). Early voting will begin Oct. 24 and run through Oct. 31. Find an early voting location in Montgomery County near you. Not registered to vote? Remember: all eligible Maryland residents may register to vote at a polling place during early voting and on Election Day for the General Election. If you are already registered to vote in Maryland, you can check your voter registration by visiting Voter Lookup (maryland.gov) or texting CHECK to 77788.

Collaborating with Rep. Raskin’s district team

Congressman Jamie Raskin’s district team graciously hosted Team Friedson for a productive meeting on effective constituent services and collaboration across levels of government. We appreciate Congressman Raskin and his team for their ongoing partnership and advocacy on Capitol Hill to leverage resources for Montgomery County so we can best support the common good together.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations continued with the Council’s 11th annual commemoration, which included special musical and dance performances and a video presentation highlighting Latina leaders paving the way in our community. I was also honored to join Wheaton’s Hispanic Heritage Month Festival and Health Fair and MCPS’ Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. It’s always a privilege to celebrate our multicultural community and the significant impact of Latinos in our society, who continually enrich and strengthen our communities with their contributions every day.

Community Connections

I had a great time interacting with friends and neighbors at this year’s Taste of Bethesda celebration, which featured food from Bethesda’s best restaurants, live music and activities for the whole family. Thank you to the Bethesda Urban Partnership for putting together a fantastic community event!

I also got to experience the rich traditions of German culture at Germantown Oktoberfest at the BlackRock Center for the Arts along with District Councilmember Marilyn Balcombe. Thanks to the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce and BlackRock Center for the Arts for bringing back this festive celebration.

In Poolesville, I was honored to join Habitat for Humanity for their 5th Annual Polo Classic Fundraiser. There, I presented two dapper young attendees with their well-deserved “Best Dressed” awards. I’m very grateful for all that Habitat for Humanity does in our community and beyond to provide quality homes with dignity.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My heart goes out to all those who have lost a loved one or whose lives have been forever changed by breast cancer. Screening mammograms and early detection can save lives. This October, and throughout the year, residents are encouraged to speak with their health care provider to learn about their risks for breast cancer and discuss methods for prevention and early detection.

Find a screening near you.
