Expanding Public Transit
I was proud to celebrate the launch of the Great Seneca Transit Network earlier this month. This project is so much more than just two new bus lines — it is the beginning of a large-scale, pedestrian-friendly transit network.
The new Pink and Lime bus lines operate east-west connections between the Shady Grove Metro station and the Traville Gateway Transit Center, offering residents of Rockville, Gaithersburg and Upcounty easy transit access to our thriving bio-tech corridor, higher education, shopping centers and more.
All aboard!

Preventing Gun Deaths
One-third of deaths by suicide in Montgomery County involve a firearm. That’s why I passed the Suicide Awareness and Firearm Education (SAFE) Act. As of this month, the SAFE Act is now being implemented, meaning that gun stores in the county are now providing information about safe storage of guns and available mental health resources to all residents.
We need people to know that mental health and suicide prevention support is available in our community.

Increasing Access to Childcare
The doors are officially open to more affordable childcare in our community!
Congratulations to CentroNía on the opening of the new Martha Gudelsky Child Development Center at the site of the former Silver Spring library.
We know that access to high-quality, affordable childcare remains one of the greatest challenges for Montgomery County families. With over 71,000 infants and toddlers living in our community, we must create more opportunities for working parents to ensure that their kids to safe, educational and nurturing environments during the day.
This new center will also create 40 new jobs, opportunities for local partnerships and space for community events.
It’s a win-win-win!
Religious Diversity
Montgomery County is the most religiously diverse county in the U.S.!
According to a 2023 census by the Public Religion Research Institute, Montgomery County has a higher concentration of Orthodox Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus and Unitarian Universalists than the rest of the country.
This recognition further highlights why Montgomery County is a great place for everyone to live, work and raise a family. Our diversity is our strength!
Small Business Spotlight: Locally Crafted
I recently visited the store Locally Crafted, in Gaithersburg, to congratulate the owners — Heather and Stacey — on their recent move to Rio shopping center. The shop features one-of-a-kind work from Maryland artists, many of whom live in Montgomery County. It was a great opportunity to learn more about this women-owned business as well as the many local businesses they support in turn.

Constituent Corner
Residents of a Clarksburg neighborhood were concerned because their streetlights were out, leaving them in complete darkness at night. After their HOA was unable to facilitate the needed repairs, the residents reached out to me. My office contacted the county's Department of Transportation, which worked with the utility company to dispatch a crew and repair the lights.
If you need help with a county agency, please fill out this service request form and my office will reach out to assist you.
Did You Know?
The Department of Transportation is offering adult bike classes at ten locations throughout the County. The classes are taught by experienced Washington Area Bicyclist Association instructors and include Learn to Ride and Basic Skills sections. Bikes and helmets will be provided to participants in the Learn to Ride section. Advance registration is required.
Online registration will open for November classes on October 7.
