The future is bright for North Bethesda!
The county recently signed an agreement with WMATA and the University of Maryland to build a life sciences center that will include housing and retail space at the North Bethesda Metro station. This transit-oriented development will be one more anchor to Montgomery County's life sciences corridor, with the addition of UMD’s Institute for Health Computing, a new research and tech school.
At the signing ceremony, U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin presented a $5 million check that will help pay for planning and preliminary engineering for a new entrance to the North Bethesda Metro Station, for which the county is also seeking a $25 million “Raise” grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The county has secured a total of $37 million for infrastructure supporting the project, including streets and utilities, public open spaces and transit improvements. This is a great example of the big things we can do through effective federal, state and regional partnerships.

I was proud to join Council Vice President Kate Stewart in supporting her resolution affirming that reproductive healthcare is a human right in Montgomery County.
Over the past two years, we have seen what happens time and time again when women are denied or cannot access reproductive healthcare. At Tuesday’s press conference, we heard from women, healthcare providers and public health experts who shared their personal experiences and called upon us all to enshrine the right to choose in Maryland’s constitution this November.

I was thrilled to join the Maryland Women Business Center (MWBC) to celebrate the five-year anniversary of their Shop Local program. Since 2019, this program has propelled the success of many entrepreneurs throughout Montgomery County, helping to grow their businesses and diversify our local small-businesses community.
Shop Local has helped small- and early-stage businesses generate over $480,000 in sales since its inception, and because it has been so successful, MWBC is expanding the program to other counties in Maryland!
You can learn more about the program and how to apply online.

Montgomery County Circuit Court is holding their second Community Outreach Forum on September 12 at the Germantown Campus of Montgomery College. The topic for this forum is Navigating Family Matters in the Court: Custody, Child Support, Divorce and Domestic Violence.
The Maryland Judiciary’s Equal Justice Committee is hosting community forums across the state to increase understanding of the courts and their services while learning the community’s needs and the ways in which the courts can provide better service.

Residents in a Chevy Chase neighborhood were worried that a particular tree’s overgrown branches would damage the power, telephone and internet cables attached to a nearby utility pole. After attempts to contact the utility company went unaddressed, the residents reached out to me. My office contacted MCDOT on their behalf, which sent a team within 24 hours to inspect the tree. Fortunately, they determined that there was no immediate threat to resident safety. MCDOT is now working in conjunction with the utility company to schedule the tree’s removal.
