In our last session before August recess, the council passed the Make Office Vacancy Extinct (M.O.V.E.) Act, which I introduced alongside my colleagues on the Economic Development Committee to boost Montgomery County’s economy.
The office vacancy rate in Montgomery County is 18.2%, which is high, but lower than other jurisdictions in the D.C. region.
The M.O.V.E. Act incentivizes businesses to relocate and grow in Montgomery County, which is good for our restaurants, our stores and our entire local economy. While telework is great for some people, we know having office space is still a necessity for many professions and industries.
You can learn more about the M.O.V.E. Act here.
Montgomery County is open for business!
On Tuesday I joined MCPD Chief Marc Yamada and public safety leaders for National Night Out, an annual event focused on creating and strengthening positive relationships between residents and local law enforcement.
Events across the county featured safety demonstrations, youth-focused programming and informational resources to ensure that all of us feel safe in our community.
It was wonderful to see so many neighbors come together to make our communities safe for everyone.
Thanks to all of the communities that hosted National Night Out events this year
While our hometown heroes like Katie Ledecky continue to win big at the Paris Olympics, I recently had the pleasure of celebrating some remarkable athletes at Community Support Services’ 16th annual Olympics.
CSS does important work by providing quality, community-based service to children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. You can watch a short video about the event here.
Thank you to all the athletes, staff and parents who made this event so much fun.
Congratulations to all the participants!

Did you know that Montgomery County has 583 farms that employ more than 10,000 people?
Last month’s farm tour was a great way to visit the agricultural reserve, which encompasses nearly one-third of our county. Many thanks to all the participating farms, breweries and wineries — and an extra shout-out to those I was able to visit: Button Farm, King Barn Dairy MOOseum, Honey Acres Farm and Windridge Vineyards.
If you haven’t spent a day in our beautiful countryside, check your calendar and plan a visit. You can learn more about our local farms by visiting the Office of Agriculture website.

A resident reached out to me about an urgent situation in her Olney neighborhood — a pipe spanning a nearby creek had broken, causing a sinkhole to form in the middle of the road. My office reached out to MCDOT, which fixed the pipes, grouted the hole in the roadway and permanently patched the street. The resident was grateful for our help and appreciated the long-term solution.
Silver Spring and North Bethesda were recently recognized as two of the greatest neighborhoods in the entire country! Fortune ranked Silver Spring at #1 on their annual list of best places for families to live and Travel + Leisure magazine ranked North Bethesda at #4 on their list of the 10 best suburbs to live in.
Let’s continue making Montgomery County a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family!
