Spotlight on Solar

Love, light and renewable energy!

It was wonderful to join Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Gaithersburg to celebrate their new solar panels, native plantings and environmental stewardship.

This was a true partnership between the church, the cities of Gaithersburg and Rockville, Montgomery County Green Bank and Interfaith Power & Light.

Send me a message if your faith community is interested in going green.

Increasing Access to Healthcare

Healthcare is a human right. Unfortunately, many people without insurance can’t or don’t know how to access high quality care. Thankfully, we have organizations like Fabric Health to help connect people with healthcare where they already are: the laundromat.

I recently spent a morning with Fabric Health at Rainbow Laundry in Long Branch, where they provided information and registered residents for Medicaid coverage. It’s a wonderful program that is based on engagement, trust and wellness. You can watch a short video about it here.

32 million Americans spend two hours a week at the laundromat. If we want to ensure that all of our neighbors have the information they need to access healthcare, we need to meet them where they’re at.

Businessperson of the Year

Congratulations to Dr. Rose Li of Bethesda for being selected Small Business Person of the Year for Maryland by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Dr. Li founded Rose Li & Associates (RLA) in 2003 to help organizations focused on public health amplify their impact. Since then, RLA has more than doubled in size and has supported both businesses and major government agencies in its research and communications.

I recently joined the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce to celebrate Dr. Li’s success and accomplishments. Congratulations!

Pride Month

June is almost here and I am excited to host Montgomery County’s sixth annual LGBTQ+ Pride Month. It is an honor to represent a community that embraces and celebrates our diversity and supports our individuality. I hope you check out some of the local pride events happening throughout the month of June! You can find more information and RSVP to events here.

Constituent Corner

A resident recently contacted me because he was concerned about mold in his apartment. He had notified his landlord of the problem, but wasn’t sure of what, if anything, was being done to resolve the matter. My office connected him with the Department of Housing and Community Affairs, who opened a case at his request and sent an inspector to the unit to remove the mold.
