Faith and Affordable Housing Leaders Support the FAITH ZTA

Council Vice President Kate Stewart and I were joined by faith leaders and affordable housing advocates for a press conference highlighting a zoning measure that would allow multifamily housing on properties used by faith-based institutions. The FAITH ZTA would facilitate the creation of more affordable housing and bring forth a new opportunity for our faith-based organizations to provide for the community. We heard directly from faith leaders and affordable housing advocates who are working with us to make this innovative solution a reality in our communities.

Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center

The much-anticipated Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center is officially open! I joined County Executive Elrich and many colleagues and friends for the grand opening celebration. The new center features three pools, a gym, community center, fitness center, basketball court, dance studio and much more. This was a huge and necessary investment in the Silver Spring community, one that highlights our values here in Montgomery County to make sure all residents have access to live their best, healthy and happy lives. This world-class facility, which is strategically located near a major transit hub, will provide access to swimming, social and recreational activities for generations to come.

Women’s History Month

Each March, we commemorate Women's History Month and celebrate the vital role of women in our own communities and in American history. I’m proud and inspired to serve alongside my colleagues, who make up the largest majority-female Council body in Montgomery County history. This Women's History Month, there are lots of ways to celebrate, including the Council’s commemoration which will be held at the Council Office Building on March 19 at 9 a.m. Plus, make sure to dine at some of the excellent women-owned restaurants and eateries in Montgomery County.
