As we ring in the new year, I’m optimistic about the upcoming months and all that we will achieve together in 2024. It has been a privilege to represent Montgomery County for the last five years and I look forward to leading the Council through challenges and new opportunities in the year ahead.
Happy New Year!

I’m proud to be part of a community that takes seriously the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Individually and collectively, through our words and actions, we can make Montgomery County more equitable and welcoming for all our neighbors, and a beacon of light and hope for everyone in our community.
The Council will hold a public hearing on the Takoma Park Minor Master Plan Amendment on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. at Takoma Park Middle School. The plan makes recommendations to improve quality of life, guide future development and encourage improvements to the natural and built environments within the plan area. This plan amendment would update portions of the 2000 Takoma Park Master Plan and reexamine certain elements to address changes that were not anticipated at the time the master plan was approved. Sign up to testify by Jan. 24 at 5 p.m. on the Council’s website or by calling 240-777-7803.
I was thrilled to join Governor Wes Moore, Comptroller Brooke Lierman, members of the Moore administration and state and County leaders at the ribbon cutting for the new Choice Hotels International corporate headquarters at Pike and Rose in North Bethesda. The brand new headquarters will provide a workplace for 400 employees. We’re grateful that Choice Hotels will continue to grow with its home base here in Montgomery County.
I recently joined with County Executive Elrich to meet with a delegation from our sister city of Xi'an, China, to discuss economic, educational, and cultural exchanges and collaboration. I welcome the opportunity to expand and strengthen partnerships both at home and abroad that will help the County innovate and prosper.
