Summer Camp Fairs and Registration
Montgomery County Recreation is helping you get ready for an epic summer as registration for our summer camps will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 6:30 a.m. for County residents. Registration will be available at ActiveMONTGOMERY.org. Programs and the digital GUIDE will be viewable online this Friday, Jan. 5. Non-County residents will be able to register starting Thursday, Jan. 18.

At the fairs, families can meet with recreation staff members and talk with instructors to ask questions and learn more about the offerings. Get information about the hundreds of camp options offered and experience fun camp games and activities.
Make sure to stop by to check out the gaga pit, arts, crafts, games, snacks and more. You will also be able to apply on site for Rec Assist, the Department's financial assistance program. Make sure to bring your documents.
Join the Team as a Lifeguard
New year, new job! Join our Montgomery County Recreation team as a lifeguard at the new Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center, opening this year.
As a lifeguard, you will monitor water safety in County pools, supervise swim sessions, enforce health and safety rules, perform pool maintenance and cleaning, provide lifesaving assistance when needed and learn something new every day!
To apply you must be at least 15, have a current lifeguard certification, CPR and First Aid certification from the American Red Cross, YMCA or other approved organization, be reliable and have good communication skills and be able to pass a water test and meet required physical demands.

Get Ready for Fashion Boot Camp
Are you a 12–18-year-old middle school or high school student interested in modeling and performing? Our Youth Development team is getting ready to begin its Fashion Boot Camp program.
The Boot Camp combines fashion, music and performing arts all together into one unique experience!Over the course of the 10-week program, participants learn how to walk the runway, in preparation for the Fashion Boot Camp Showcase which allows participants to show off what they have learned to a crowd of family and friends.
Fashion Boot Camp will meet on Fridays at East County Community Recreation Center from 7 to 9:30 p.m., starting Friday, Jan. 26, and will culminate with the showcase finale performance on Friday, March 22. A parent/guardian of participants must attend the general interest meeting on Friday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.
Montgomery County Recreation is accepting applications for 2024 Rec Assist, the Department’s financial aid program. Rec Assist provides County residents who receive eligible public assistance an opportunity to receive a scholarship to use toward most activities and memberships.
County residents who currently receive public assistance from any of these programs are eligible for Rec Assist: Care for Kids; Free and Reduced-Price Meal Services (FARMS); Heat and Eat (H-EAT); Housing Assistance from a Shelter; Maryland Energy Assistance; Maryland Medicaid; Montgomery County HHS Rental Assistance Program; Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); Supplemental Social Security Income; Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) and WIC.
Once approved, each eligible family member will receive $400 placed on the qualifying individual's ActiveMONTGOMERY account for use. Rec Assist funds are available for use from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2024, or until the funds are depleted. Funds are available on a first come, first served basis.
Rec Assist applications are accepted online, by mail to Montgomery County Recreation, Attention Rec Assist, 2425 Reedie Drive, 10th Floor, Wheaton, MD, 20902, or can be dropped off at that same address Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Applications are available in English and Spanish.
Once your application is approved, the amount of eligible assistance will be placed on your ActiveMONTGOMERY account within 10 business days.
Join MoCoRec in our 55+ Winter Wellness Rec-tivities
It’s a great time to stay active with it being the start of a new year and Montgomery County Recreation is hosting a variety of wellness activities for our 55+ County residents now through March at locations across the County.
From tai chi and martial arts to Zumba and stretching exercises, these free activities allow participants to meet new friends, learn nutrition tips and improve in areas such as flexibility, stamina, balance, strength and more.

RecFit passes continue to be FREE for Montgomery County residents in 2024. The free pass provides access to fully equipped fitness rooms, open gym (drop-in) activities and game rooms at any community recreation center during regularly scheduled hours.

Residents must register for the fitness pass in-person at the centers. Proof of residency (a valid photo ID with an address or a photo ID with a current utility bill) must be provided by County residents to receive the free pass. Non-County residents can purchase a pass at a price of $20 for one month, $80 for six months and $150 for one year. Visit the website for more information.
If you signed up for a free pass in 2023 there is no need to get a new pass for 2024. Your pass will remain valid. In 2023, more than 100,000 RecFit passes were issued, a significant increase from past years. In 2022, there were 26,065 passes issued.
The free RecFit pass does not include access to aquatic centers. For aquatic center pass information and prices, visit the website.
Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center Update
As we get ready to open the Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center (SSRAC) this year, our team continues preparations to make sure it provides the best experience possible for County residents. In fact, you may have seen our SSRAC staff out in full force providing information about the facility at the recent Ice and Lights Festival in Downtown Silver Spring.
SSRAC will feature a gymnasium, exercise and weight room spaces, dance studios, pools for general swimming and aquatic play, multipurpose activity rooms and more. With Summer Camp registration and Spring registration right around the corner, make sure to be on the lookout via ActiveMONTGOMERY for programs that will be held at SSRAC!
