Save the Dates: Summer Camp Fairs and Registration
Mark your calendar! Registration for our summer camps will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 6:30 a.m. for County residents. Registration will be available at ActiveMONTGOMERY.org. Programs and the digital GUIDE will be viewable online beginning Friday, Jan. 5.
And make sure to save the dates for our FREE summer camps fairs taking place 1 – 4 p.m.:
At the fairs, families can meet with recreation staff members and talk with instructors to ask questions and learn more about the offerings. Get information about the hundreds of camps options offered and experience fun camp games and activities.
Make sure to stop by to check out the gaga pit, arts, crafts, games, snacks and more. You will also be available to apply on site for Rec Assist.

Winter Registration is Underway
The weather outside may be frightful, but the delightful news is that registration for Montgomery County Recreation’s winter classes and programs is underway! Winter offerings include fitness, sports, visual and performing arts, therapeutic recreation and more.

In case you missed it, ActiveMONTGOMERY has a new feature allowing multiple persons within a household or organization to have their own unique login. Learn more here. In the "Household Account Management" section, the Head of Household or Organization is able to manage the household and members. They can invite members with their own unique email address.
Applications for 2024 Rec Assist Open Dec. 11
Montgomery County Recreation will begin accepting applications for 2024 Rec Assist, the department’s financial aid program, on Monday, Dec. 11. Rec Assist provides County residents who receive eligible public assistance an opportunity to receive a scholarship to use toward most activities and memberships.
County residents who currently receive public assistance from any of these programs are eligible for Rec Assist: Care for Kids; Free and Reduced-Price Meal Services (FARMS); Housing Assistance from a Shelter; Maryland Energy Assistance; Maryland Medicaid; Montgomery County HHS Rental Assistance Program; Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); Supplemental Social Security Income; Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) and WIC.
Once approved, each eligible family member will receive $400 placed on the qualifying individual's ActiveMONTGOMERY account for use. This is an increase in amount from years past. Rec Assist 2024 funds are available for use from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2024, or until the funds are depleted. Funds are available on a first come, first served basis.
Rec Assist applications will be accepted online, by mail to Montgomery County Recreation Attention Rec Assist, 2425 Reedie Drive, 10th Floor, Wheaton, MD, 20902, or can be dropped off at that same address Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Applications are available in English and Spanish.
Once your application is approved, the amount of eligible assistance will be placed on your ActiveMONTGOMERY account within 10 business days. Funds will be available for use beginning Jan. 1, 2024.
And if you still have 2023 Rec Assist funds make sure to use them before the end of the year!

RecFit Memberships Will Continue to be Free in 2024
Our RecFit passes will continue to be FREE for Montgomery County residents in 2024. The free RecFit pass provides access to fully equipped fitness rooms, open gym (drop-in) activities and game rooms at any community recreation center during regularly scheduled hours.

Residents must register for the fitness pass in-person at the centers. Proof of residency (a valid photo ID with an address or a photo ID with a current utility bill) must be provided by County residents to receive the free pass. Non-County residents can purchase a pass at a price of $20 for one month, $80 for six months and $150 for one year. Visit the website for more information.
If you signed up for a free pass in 2023 there is no need to get a new pass for 2024. Your pass will remain valid.
The free RecFit pass does not include access to aquatic centers. For aquatic center pass information and prices, visit the website.
Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center Update
Our staff continues to work diligently as we prepare to open the Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center (SSRAC). Just last month, a fresh white paint coating was applied to all the pools at the facility!
SSRAC will feature a gymnasium, exercise and weight room spaces, dance studios, pools for general swimming and aquatic play, multipurpose activity rooms and more. Visit the website to view a presentation of the new facility and complete the programming survey.
We’re currently hiring for positions at SSRAC including lifeguards, front desk support staff and a nutrition manager. Explore current and available positions and apply here. Make sure to ask our staff all about what SSRAC will have to offer when you see them at an event in your area.
Visit the Department of General Services’ website for the latest project updates and architectural and construction images. SSRAC is scheduled to open in early 2024.
