 The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will host a virtual public meeting from 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, to share information and answer questions about the MD 190 (River Road) Corridor Safety Study. The study is examining ways that pedestrian and bicyclist safety can be improved along approximately 4,000 feet of MD 190 in the Chevy Chase area from Springfield Drive to Little Falls Parkway.
 Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will join in several special events as the County joins in the celebration of “National Hispanic Heritage Month” from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. The events will recognize Latinos and Hispanic immigrants making important contributions to their communities.
 A new COVID-19 vaccine will soon be available. Earlier this week, the Food and Drug Administration approved a new vaccine and the advisory committee of the Centers for Disease Control recommended that anyone age 6 months and older get vaccinated. The new vaccines are a much closer match to currently circulating variants. They are updated versions of the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech
 The Wheaton Ice Arena will hold an open house from 9-11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17, that will provide opportunities to learn about and try ice sports and activities. Stations will be set up to assist those who want to find out more about ice sports such as hockey, speedskating and figure skating.
The sixth episode of the Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services (DPS) Podcast, “Stay Septic Smart,” features important information and tips about properly maintaining a septic system. The DPS podcast is now available in advance of Septic Smart Week, which this year is designated from Sept. 18- 22. It is an annual campaign by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to promote the importance of septic system maintenance.
Montgomery County Government has nearly 1,000 full-time and part-time jobs, currently open for employment. Interested job seekers 18‐and‐over are encouraged to attend the Montgomery County Career Fair and Hiring Expo from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza, located at 1 Veterans Place in downtown Silver Spring.
 The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) started its semi-annual interior washdown to degrease and clean 21 County-owned parking garages in Bethesda, Silver Spring and Wheaton. The cleanings, which will occur on nights and weekends, started this week with garages in Bethesda and will conclude with Silver Spring garages on Saturday, Nov. 4.
Sales of a variety of native plants on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16-17, are among the many special events that will be featured throughout September by Montgomery Parks.
 Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) is launching an ad campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of under-21 alcohol access and consumption. Starting this month, ABS will place public service advertisements on bus shelters and bus taillights to deter under-21 alcohol use and reduce adolescent access to alcohol.
One of the region’s largest electric vehicle displays, a classic car show, a 5-kilometer charity run and a morning parade will be among the many highlights of the annual Poolessville Day festival on Saturday, Sept. 23. Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will be among those joining the celebration.
 The 32nd Annual Burtonsville Day Parade and Festival on Saturday, Sept. 23, will celebrate the theme of “Discovering East County.” The festivities will include three musical performances in association with the Music Center at Strathmore.
 Bicycles that are no longer being used by some can make a big difference for others. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s annual Bicycle Donation Drive will be held on Friday, Oct. 20. The event will make it easy to donate previously owned bikes and ensure they will have a continued impact.
Luis Garay Percussion World will headline the Wheaton TGIF Friday Encore fall concert series on Friday, Sept. 15, at the Marian Fryer Town Plaza, adjacent to the Wheaton Business Triangle and near the Wheaton Metro Station. The performance begins a month of Friday concerts that join in the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed Sept. 15-Oct. 15.
 The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), in collaboration with the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), is offering adult bike classes in September, October and November. The classes include both Learn to Ride and Basic Skills classes. MCDOT also will offer free, walk-up scooter classes following select bike classes.
 Gene Lynch Urban Park was dedicated in Downtown Silver Spring earlier this summer. Plans for public artwork were part of the park’s design, and now that four final selections have been identified, residents are being asked by Montgomery Parks to vote for their choice for the new art installation.
 Registration for Montgomery County Recreation’s youth basketball programs will open at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 2.
