County Executive Marc Elrich this week talks about his personal connection that led to the grand opening of The Crossvines in Poolesville. It will help wine makers in the County’s Agricultural Reserve, who will now have a nearby facility to crush their grapes, and it also will have one of the County’s largest venues for residents and organizations to hold special events. He also talks about the importance of the microgrid and resiliency center dedicated at the County Animal Services and Adoption Center. The County Executive encourages residents to attend one of the Juneteenth celebrations in the County this weekend—and to experience to the Silver Spring Blues Festival on Saturday, June 17.

Montgomery County’s 26th Juneteenth Celebration will be held from noon-10 p.m. at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown on Saturday, June 17. This year’s theme, “Journey to Freedom: Acknowledge, Educate, and Celebrate” will showcase tracing the African American struggle for freedom through education, art, dance, music and honoring elders.
Montgomery Parks is hosing down part of the Woodstock Equestrian Park in Beallsville to get ready for “MudFest 2023.” Getting covered in maximum mud will be the goal at the one-day event from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 17. MudFest offers families the unique opportunity to dive into giant mud pits for some good clean fun.
‘Suds and Sole’ 5K on Tap in Rockville Town Center on Saturday, June 17
The “Suds & Soles 5K” run and event, which is a Rockville tradition, will be held starting at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, in Rockville Town Center. The race, which is one of the few evening road races in the Washington metropolitan area, is presented through a partnership of the Montgomery County Road Runners Club and the City of Rockville. The 5K Run is open to all ages and will be followed by a fantastic post-race party.

More than a decade in the planning, earlier this week Montgomery County and the County Revenue Authority dedicated “The Crossvines,” a new development in Poolesville that will feature an event hall, a specialty restaurant, a place to hold meeting retreats and one of the few grape-crushing facilities in the Metropolitan Washington Region.
Montgomery County’s 26th Juneteenth Celebration, themed “Journey to Freedom . . . Memorialize the Struggle, Celebrate the Successes and Secure the Justice and Equality,” will kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 16, at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown when Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich presents “African American Living Legend Awards” to six County residents. This year’s honorees are Henry Hailstock, Jr., Rev. Theresa M. Henderson, Pauline G. Johnson, Sheila G. Ogilvie, Vernon H. Ricks, Jr. and Lt. Colonel Shelton (Ivan) Ware.

A full lineup of special events and programs in June sponsored by Montgomery Parks will include the start of the summer Parks Playhouse performances, its Summer Twilight Concert Series, Heritage Days, MudFest, the Juneteenth celebrations and Pride Month events.
Montgomery Parks will return of the “Summer Twilight Concert Series,” a series of free, live performances every Tuesday in June highlighting a different genre of music each week at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton. The next performance will feature the Blue Funk Band at 6:30 p.m. on June 20.
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is asking residents to donate extra or unused bicycles in good condition to the County’s BikeMatchMoCo program.
The “Silver Spring Swings” long-running free summer concert series with groups that inspire the audience to get up and dance will return this summer. The opening concert will feature the Afro Pop sound of Elikeh at 7 p.m. on June 22 at Veterans Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring.
Gaithersburg’s popular Summer Outdoor Concert Series has returned to the City Hall Concert Pavilion. Free, family-friendly concerts take place in June, July and August. The Thursday evening series will continue at 6:30 p.m. on June 22 with the rocking of the Billy Coulter Band.
Montgomery County-operated garages, parking lots and street meters in Downtown Bethesda and Silver Spring will begin charging for Saturday parking beginning on Saturday, July 8. The Saturday hours and rates will be the same as the existing weekday schedules. Sundays will remain free. Drivers will be able to purchase monthly parking passes valid for mornings, evenings and weekends.

Free e-Scooter Class for Those 18-and-Over Available on Sunday, June 18
Residents 18-and-older interested in e-scooter lessons will have the opportunity to attend the last free clinic of the spring schedule sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Transportation. The class will be from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, at Montgomery College, which is located at 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville.

Montgomery History, Glen Echo Park Partnership for the Arts and the Washington Revels at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, will combine to to present Voices of History and Hope: The Past and Future of Juneteenth in Montgomery County.
Montgomery County will host two free Independence Day fireworks displays this year, one on Saturday, July 1, and the other on Tuesday, July 4.
