Summer Program Registration Begins Monday, May 15
Montgomery County Recreation’s summer program registration begins at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, May 15 for County residents for most programs and activities! Registration for Bone Builders, Day Trippers and Senior Outdoor Adventures in Recreation (SOAR) will begin at 9 a.m.
Non-County residents will be able to register for Recreation’s programs beginning at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17.
Again this year, residents can build their own guide. A digital guide is also available online. While online registration is encouraged, registration will also be available by mail, drop-off or in person.
On May 15, in-person registration will be available at 6:30 a.m. at four of the County’s aquatics centers and at the administrative offices in Wheaton. In-person registration will also be available at all other Recreation facilities during regular business hours.
For more information about registration, visit the website or call the customer service team at 240-777-6840. Summer camp registration is also currently underway!
Outdoor Pools Will Open Memorial Day Weekend
Montgomery County Recreation's outdoor pool season begins Saturday, May 27, at 11 a.m. Daily admission is $5 for County residents ages 1-17, $7 for adults, and $6 for seniors (age 55 and over). Summer pool passes are available for purchase and are valid from May 27 to September 4.
During the preseason, May 27 – June 16, outdoor pool hours are 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 3 – 6 p.m. on weekends and Memorial Day.
Residents are encouraged to become familiar with the safety rules posted at the pools. Children are most at risk for water-related accidents and it is important they are always closely supervised while in and around the pool. Because safety is a priority, it may be necessary to temporarily halt admission to pools when capacity is reached. Additional swimmers will be admitted as soon as space becomes available.
Pool visitors are allowed to bring food and drink to the pools. However, they must follow the rules/regulations, which include no glass, no barbeques, no alcohol and that all coolers will be inspected.
For additional information about pool passes, amenities and hours of operation at all swimming pools, visit the website. Make sure to also follow Montgomery County Recreation on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Held for New Resiliency Hub at Scotland Recreation Center
On Thursday, April 20, the Bette Carol Thompson Scotland Neighborhood Recreation Center in Potomac celebrated its new “resiliency hub” with a special ribbon cutting event. Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Montgomery County Councilmembers, the Montgomery County Department of General Services’ Office of Energy and Sustainability, Maryland Energy Administration Director Paul Pinsky and Scotland community members joined Montgomery County Recreation for the event.
The new resiliency hub is designed to provide a haven for the Scotland community by keeping the center powered during electrical grid outages. Several of the installations included a new rooftop solar system, a battery storage system, a natural gas generator and an LED lighting retrofit to the facility.
Community benefits include:
Providing space – heating or cooling – that allows people to stay cool or warm during weather emergencies.
The ability to charge cell phones, laptops and other devices.
The ability to refrigerate temperature sensitive items (i.e., important medications, milk from nursing mothers, etc.).
And helps the County advance its greenhouse gas reduction goals by providing clean, renewable energy to the center during normal day-to-day operations.
The 55+ BBQ Bonanza will be returning Friday, June 23 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Smokey Glen Farm in Gaithersburg! Registration will open Monday, May 8, and will be just $5. Participants can sign up either online or in-person at one of Recreation’s senior centers.
County residents 55 and older can join their friends for a fun-filled day of great food and fun activities, including games, crafts, line dancing and more! Lunch is included with vegetarian options available. The event will happen rain or shine.
The Smokey Glen Farm location is fully accessible, but space is limited so early registration is highly recommended. Last year more than 480 seniors attended the event. Transportation will again be provided from the senior centers. When registering, participants should designate whether they need transportation and from which center.
