Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich this week addresses how the County Delegation to the 2023 General Assembly brought home many victories that will support future plans and programs. The branch has been closed since May 22, 2022, for significant renovations.

Montgomery County marked “Maryland Flood Awareness Month” this week by announcing it has completed installation of 35 flood sensors as part of the County’s early flood warning system. The sensors in flood-prone areas will enhance County's efforts regarding emergency responses to flooding and mitigate flood damage.

The 32nd Annual Rockville Science Day will provide free experience for all ages from noon-5 p.m. at the Montgomery College campus in Rockville. Rockville Science Day, hosted by the Rockville Science Center, will feature science and technology-related exhibits, activities, games and demonstrations including rocket-building (and launching), telescope viewing and a wide variety of robots.

Montgomery County ranks as the healthiest county in Maryland in the annual County Health Rankings (CHR). According to the 2023 rankings, the five healthiest counties in Maryland are Montgomery, Howard. Frederick, Calvert and St. Mary’s.

Montgomery County’s eighth annual GreenFest is back this year, taking place in two different locations, ‘GreenFest in the Gardens’ will take place at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton on Saturday, April 22. ‘GreenFest in the City’ will happen at Marian Fryer Town Plaza in Downtown Wheaton on Sunday, April 23. Both will be free, family friendly events organized by a coalition of public, nonprofit and university partners.
Montgomery County Recreation will host the “Project Prom Dress” giveaway event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, at the Marilyn J. Praisner Community Recreation Center in Burtonsville. Any high school student with their school I.D. card can shop, try-on and take home a free dress or suit and accessories so they are ready for their school’s prom.
Montgomery Parks will be blooming with a full lineup of special events and programs in April. There will be events for residents 55-and-older, hikes with (and without) dogs, a sale of native plants, outdoor Sunday brunches and a roller disco.
A ‘Virtual Art Exhibition in Celebration of Earth Day’ Will Be Hosted by Artist Marcie Wolf-Hubbard on Thursday, April 20
A Virtual Art Exhibition in Celebration of Earth Day will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, on Zoom. Resident artists of all levels are invited to participate by displaying their artwork representing paintings, ceramics, photography, sculpture, textiles, mixed media and other forms. The work should celebrate nature and the Earth in some way. The virtual art exhibition will be hosted by artist Marcie Wolf-Hubbard.

Montgomery County’s Department of Permitting Services (DPS) will host an educational workshop for civil engineers from 8 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, April 26, in the auditorium of the County’s Wheaton office building, which is located at 2425 Reedie Drive.
The Montgomery County Commission on Aging will join in the celebration of May as “Older Americans Month” by hosting its annual free forum on Thursday, May 4, at the Bohrer Park Activity Center in Gaithersburg. This year’s theme is “Smart Homes—Smarter Care: Technology that Supports Aging in Place” and it will be held during the City of Gaithersburg’s Active Aging Expo.
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), in collaboration with the Washington Area Bicycle Association (WABA), will offer adult bike classes in April, May and June. The classes include a learn to ride and a basic skills class. MCDOT also will offer four free scooter classes in spring.
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, the Montgomery County Planning Department and the Montgomery County Delegation to the Maryland House of Delegates are seeking applicants to be part of a new Development Review Process Workgroup. Individuals interested in the serving on the workgroup must apply by Monday, April 17.
Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) will offer online workshops and one-on-one sessions geared toward assisting job seekers, entrepreneurs, and older adults throughout April. All workshops are free.
