 Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich this week offers support for the proposed HOME Act legislation that would establish a maximum rent increase for County tenants. He talks about the County’s commitment regarding the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in Rockville. He explains the importance of having the Maryland General Assembly pass the “Melanie Diaz Sprinklers Save Lives Act” that would keep residents in high-rise buildings safer. And he says the County will continue to provide COVID-19 vaccines, test kits and masks to residents.
 The City of Gaithersburg, in partnership with The Peterson Companies and rio, will host its 21st St. Patrick's Day Parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 11. Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will be joining the line of march. Following the parade, there will be festive live music, specials and family fun throughout the rio lakefront.
Downtown Wheaton will be a “Shamrockin’ Good Time’ as it stretches St. Patrick’s Day to a two-day celebration on Friday-Saturday, March 17-18.
Daylight Saving Time begins overnight Saturday-Sunday, March 11-12. In addition to moving clocks one hour forward, it is a good reminder to check or replace the batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. If batteries are being replaced, the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection encourages residents to not throw them in the trash. They need to be recycled properly.
 Montgomery County’s Alcohol Beverage Services has opened registration for its annual limited availability whiskey lotteries that provide opportunities to purchase highly sought spirits. The lotteries are free to enter, but have residency requirements. The deadline to register is 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, March 11.
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, County Council President Evan Glass, County Councilmembers, County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Director Chris Conklin, other County officials and community groups this week joined ceremonies at Grand Park Avenue and Banneker Street in North Bethesda to announce the completion of the White Flint West Workaround project. The $74 million construction project supports the future development plans of the Pike District as a walkable, bikeable, public transit-focused epicenter for health computing.
Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, will present information, including traffic data, related to the Little Falls Parkway Pilot Project to the Montgomery Planning Board at an evening briefing on Thursday, March 30. After the briefing, the Planning Board will hold a public hearing so residents can respond to the data and share input on the project.
 Montgomery Parks is hosting a busy lineup of special events and programs in March, including a variety of hikes and birdwatching.
 Montgomery County teens have an opportunity to win some great prizes by producing peer videos promoting the importance of focusing on their surroundings, instead of their phones, while driving and walking. The County Department of Transportation’s “Heads Up, Phones Down” high school video contest will be accepting entries of 30-second Public Service Announcements (PSAs) through March 31.
 Montgomery Parks will be hosting two meetings to present initial concepts and solicit feedback on the future Bethesda Market Park development.
“Montgomery Connects,” Montgomery County’s digital equity and inclusion program, will distribute 6,000 laptops to low-income individuals funded by the FCC’s Emergency Connectivity Fund grant and Maryland Emergency Education Relief grants. The distributions will take place, while supplies last, at numerous events across the County in March and April.

 Montgomery County Recreation is hiring part-time seasonal employees to work during the 2023 summer season. Available positions include lifeguards, camp counselors, camp directors and more.
Before it was a Montgomery County park and event destination, Rockwood Manor Special Park near Great Falls was a grand estate. It later became a national Girl Scout camp and was the subject of a loud public fight over its future. That is part of its history of more than a century, which will be discussed in Montgomery History’s special online presentation Remembering Rockwood at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14.

Montgomery County Public Libraries in March will be participating in “Hatchlings: Ready to Hatch,” a Maryland State Library-sponsored program developed by Betsy Diamant-Cohen, the creator of Mother Goose on the Loose. The Hatchlings program helps expectant and new parents build the skills to be their child’s first teachers.

 The Paws in the Park Dogwalk and Festival will return to Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm in Gaithersburg from noon-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 30. After a three-year hiatus during the COVID-19 health crisis, the Montgomery County Humane Society will hold the event for the 22nd time to raise funds to help homeless cats and dogs.
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation is promoting this year’s Transit Driver Appreciation Day on March 18 with a month-long social media contest.
 The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), in collaboration with the Washington Area Bicycle Association, will offer adult bike classes in April, May and June. The classes include a learn to ride and a basic skills class. MCDOT also will offer four free scooter classes in spring.
