 Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich notes and expresses his appreciation for the strong pro-choice actions by Governor Wes Moore and state leaders. County Executive Elrich talks about a new collaborative workgroup that will work to improve the development review process in the county.  Registration is now open for the 10th Annual Montgomery County Energy Summit, which will take place in-person on March 28-29, at the Silver Spring Civic Building. Hosted by the County Department of Environmental Protection, the Energy Summit brings the private sector, nonprofit groups and local governments together to collaborate on expanding high-performing, sustainable buildings.
 A diverse selection of educational and entertaining programs celebrating Black History Month will be hosted by Montgomery Parks throughout February.
“Wine and Waterfowl,” an event that will allow guests to watch from the deck at sunset as waterfowl land on the lake for the night, will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Black Hill Regional Park Visitors Center in Boyds. Montgomery Parks will be hosting the event that will include a snack and a glass of local wine from Rockland Farms.
 Registration for Montgomery County Recreation’s spring programs begins at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, for County residents for most program and activities. Registration for Bone Builders, Day Trippers and Senior Outdoor Adventures in Recreation (SOAR) will begin at 9 a.m.
 Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center is holding a fee-waived adoption event for dogs over 40 pounds starting Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, Feb. 14, and running through Friday, Feb. 24. The “More to Love” adoption event is sponsored by Friends of Montgomery County Animals.
 The Annual Rockville Lantern Festival, which traditionally features live onstage cultural performances and includes ethnic cuisine and cultural displays, will be held at from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville. Admission is free.
 Montgomery County Recreation is working to ensure the dream of attending prom can come true for all high school students. The department is collecting gently used and new dresses, suits and accessories that students will be able to choose from during “Praisner’s Project Prom Dress” giveaway event on Saturday, April 15, at Marilyn J. Praisner Community Recreation Center in Burtonsville.
 County residents who are ages 100 and older or will turn 100 in 2023 will be honored in May at a special celebration. Montgomery County Recreation is now seeking to identify those residents so they can be invited to the event.
The annual “GreenScapes” landscape symposium of Brookside Gardens will be held online from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17. The focus of this year’s program is “Designing with Purpose.”
 “The Great Zucchini” will return to the Gaithersburg Arts Barn with a performance of magic and laughter on Monday, Feb. 20, which will be observed in Montgomery County as Presidents Day. There will be two shows, starting at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Sheree Renée Thomas, a New York Times best-selling writer and two-time World Fantasy Award-winning author, will be the featured speaker at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, as Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) continues its Contemporary Conversations series with a presentation recognizing February as Black History Month. Ms. Thomas will speak at the free event at the Rockville Memorial Library on “Afrofuturism and Diversity in Sci-Fi.”
Talented residents who are skilled in fixing a wide variety of items are being sought to help others with objects that are not working in peak condition. The fixers will be at work at the Second City of Gaithersburg Environmental Affairs Committee “Fix-It Fair,” which will be held Saturday, June 3, at the Casey Community Center in Gaithersburg.

2022 ‘Age Friendly Initiative Progress Report’ Highlights Innovative Growth to Service Delivery for Older Residents
Reaffirming Montgomery County’s commitment to making the community a true “Community for a Lifetime,” the Department of Health and Human Services has released its 2022 progress report on implementing the County’s Age-Friendly Initiative. The initiative is an effort to enhance the County as a place where all residents can age, thrive to their full potential and help make the County a better, stronger and more inclusive community.

 The 10th Annual Juried Membership Exhibition of the Art League of Germantown will be on display through April 16 at Kentlands Mansion in Gaithersburg.
 Low-to-moderate income Montgomery County residents may be eligible for free tax income tax preparation assistance from the Community Action Agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) partnership. VITA hosts tax preparation assistance for households earning $60,000 or less.
‘Tiny House Open House’ Tour Featuring the Builders Will Be Hosted Online on Thursday, Feb. 16
A “Tiny House Open House Tour” featuring artist Molly Pauker and other tiny house builders will be held online from 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. The tour, which will be presented by Silver Spring Town Center, inc., will take a whimsical journey exploring the memories, hopes and dreams of local artists.

 Montgomery County Public Libraries will offer online workshops and one-on-one sessions geared toward assisting job seekers throughout February. All workshops are free.
 Participants are now being sought to join the 21st Annual Gaithersburg St. Patrick's Day Parade, which will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, at rio in Gaithersburg. The parade meanders down Grand Corner Avenue at rio.
