Mark your calendar! Registration for summer camps will begin Jan. 17 at 6:30 a.m. for Montgomery County Residents. Registration will be available at activemontgomery.org.
You will be able to view camps online and build your own guide beginning Jan. 6. Non-County residents will be able to register beginning Thursday, Jan. 19.
Senior Center Spotlight: Holiday Park
Holiday Park Senior Center unveiled its new outdoor fitness equipment with a ribbon cutting ceremony in December. Montgomery County seniors joined the Recreation team to celebrate this new feature and learn more about the equipment.
“We are pleased to partner with Kompan to bring outdoor fitness equipment to our Montgomery County Recreation facilities,” said Montgomery County Recreation Director Robin Riley. “This is a great resource for our community members to take advantage of and helps promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle for all ages. The residents we serve are excited about the variety of equipment available to use at Holiday Park Senior Center and we can’t wait to see them getting a workout in.”
Holiday Park is Montgomery County's largest senior center serving approximately 500-600 adults each day over the age of 55. The center is centrally located near the intersection of Veirs Mill Road and Connecticut Avenue in Wheaton. Learn more.
Fitness Passes are Free in 2023
Looking to renew your fitness goals in 2023? Community Recreation Center fitness passes are FREE this year for Montgomery County residents. The free fitness pass provides access to fully equipped fitness rooms, open gym (drop-in) activities and game rooms at any community recreation center during regularly scheduled hours.
Residents must register for the fitness pass in-person at the centers. Proof of residency (a valid photo ID with an address or a photo ID with a current utility bill) must be provided by County residents to receive the free pass. Non-County residents can purchase a pass at a price of $20 for one month, $80 for six months and $150 for one year. Visit the website for more information.

Program Spotlight: Pickleball
In December our team hosted a glow in the dark pickleball tournament! Pickleball is a fun and fast paced game that is a combination of several classic games – badminton, tennis and table tennis. It is easy for beginners of all ages to learn but can develop into a quick, fast-paced competitive game for experienced players.
One great aspect of pickleball is that anyone can play this sport! People of all ages and athletic abilities will find that pickleball is a fun sport with straightforward rules. Learn more.
Apply Now for 2023 Rec Assist
Montgomery County Recreation is accepting applications for 2023 Rec Assist, the department’s financial assistance program. Rec Assist provides County residents who receive eligible public assistance an opportunity to receive a scholarship to use toward most Recreation activities and memberships.
County residents who currently receive public assistance from any of these programs are eligible for Rec Assist: Care for Kids; Free and Reduced Price Meal Services (FARMS); Housing Assistance from a Shelter; Maryland Energy Assistance; Maryland Medicaid; Montgomery County HHS Rental Assistance Program; Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); Supplemental Social Security Income; Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) and WIC.
Rec Assist 2023 funds are available now through Dec. 31, or until the funds are depleted. Funds are available on a first come, first served basis. Rec Assist applications are accepted online, by mail, or drop-off. For more information, click here.
Seeking Centenarians for Special Celebration
Mrs. Dorothy Betancourt and her family celebrate her 102nd birthday at White Oak Senior Center.
In May, Montgomery County Recreation will be celebrating County residents who are ages 100 and older or will turn 100 in 2023.
If you know someone who resides in Montgomery County, is 100 years or older (born no later than 1923), and would like special recognition, please fill out this online form or contact us at rec.seniors@montgomerycountymd.gov to register. Please include the centenarian’s name and address and the contact person’s name, email and telephone number.
The deadline to register is March 10.
