Winter Registration is Now Underway!
Registration for Montgomery County Recreation’s winter classes and programs is underway! Winter offerings include fitness, sports, visual and performing arts and more. Register online at activemontgomery.org. You can also build your own online guide to view the dozens of programs and activities for a variety of interests, skill levels and ages.

Congratulations to our Supervisors' Management School Graduates!
Congratulations to our staff who recently completed the National Recreation and Park Association's Supervisors' Management School. This program develops management and supervisory skills, providing teams with the necessary tools to improve their ability to impact the day-to-day activities of their organization. Staff from our aquatics, communications and public outreach and youth development teams completed this year's program.
Gift Greener This Holiday Season
By thinking differently about shopping for gifts, we can reduce waste, save money and support our local economy! The amount of household waste in the U.S. increases an average of 25 percent between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day
Montgomery County Recreation is proud to partner with the Department of Environmental Protection to remind you to “gift outside the box” and “gift greener” this holiday season. One way you can make a difference, gift experiences, like an Active Montgomery gift card to access Montgomery County Recreation programs and activities!
Montgomery County Recreation will begin accepting applications for 2023 Rec Assist, the department’s financial assistance program, on Monday, Dec. 12. Rec Assist provides County residents who receive eligible public assistance an opportunity to receive a scholarship to use toward most Recreation activities and memberships.
County residents who currently receive public assistance from any of these programs are eligible for Rec Assist: Care for Kids; Free and Reduced Price Meal Services (FARMS); Housing Assistance from a Shelter; Maryland Energy Assistance; Maryland Medicaid; Montgomery County HHS Rental Assistance Program; Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); Supplemental Social Security Income; Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) and WIC.
Rec Assist 2023 funds are available from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2023, or until the funds are depleted. Funds are available on a first come, first served basis.Rec Assist applications will be accepted online and by mail. For more information, click here.
Fitness Passes Will Be Free in 2023
Community Recreation Center fitness passes will be FREE for Montgomery County residents in 2023. Starting Jan. 3, 2023, the free fitness pass will provide access to fully equipped fitness rooms, open gym (drop-in) activities and game rooms at any community recreation center during regularly scheduled hours.
Residents must register for the fitness pass in-person at the centers. Proof of residency (a valid photo ID with an address or a photo ID with a current utility bill) must be provided by County residents to receive the free pass. Non-County residents can purchase a pass at a price of $20 for one month, $80 for six months and $150 for one year. Visit the website for more information.

ICYMI - Silver Spring Community Meeting
Thank you to everyone who attended our community meeting last month to learn more about the Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center (SSRAC). We had a great discussion with residents to get their feedback on the programs they would like to see at this first of its kind facility.
Scheduled to open late summer 2023, SSRAC is in the Central Business District of Silver Spring as part of a Public-Private Partnership undertaken with the Housing Opportunity Commission and the Lee Development Group. The facility will include recreation and leisure activities, with pools designed for general swimming, low level diving, exercise, aquatic play and more. A gymnasium, exercise and weight room spaces, movement and dance studios, multipurpose activity rooms, public use space and social space are also included.

Save the Date: Summer Camp Registration and Fairs
Mark your calendar! Registration for our summer camps will open on Jan. 17 at 6:30 a.m. Registration will be available at activemontgomery.org. You will be able to view camps online beginning Jan. 6.

Get information about the hundreds of camps options offered. New this year, experience camp at the fair with fun games and activities that you would see at summer camp! You will also be able to register for Rec Assist on site.

Meet our youth development team! We use a variety of means to reach all of the County’s diverse young people. Our recreation activities and services allow children and teens to make the most of their time outside of school.
