 Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich this week talks about progress the County is making toward various important goals. The dedication of the bus solar charging station and microgrid at the Brookville Bus Depot will enable the Ride On fleet to charge 70 electric buses. A plan to expand Montgomery College to an East County campus will increase educational opportunities. He addresses honoring veterans as Veterans Day approaches on Friday, Nov. 11. And with many important issues to be decided, he urges all eligible voters to make their choices on Election Day, Nov. 8.
 Election Day in Maryland is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Residents who have not voted early or cast ballots by mail can go to the polls to vote for candidates and ballot measures. And it is not too late for eligible residents who have not yet registered. They can go to their local poll, register and vote. Among the choices Montgomery voters will make will be for County Executive, four at-large seats for County Council and seven Council district seats.
 Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen, U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin, County Council President Gabe Albornoz, Council Vice President Evan Glass, Federal, State and local officials and corporate partners including AlphaStruxure this week celebrated completion of the Brookville Smart Energy Depot in Silver Spring with a ribbon-cutting event. The nation’s largest solar bus charging infrastructure project will supply clean energy to the County Department of Transportation’s (MCDOT) growing Ride On electric bus fleet.
 Residents who do not have a driveway or space on their property to create a parking pad may be eligible to install an electric vehicle (EV) charging station in the right-of-way at their property frontage. The Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services is now accepting applications for charging stations and working with residents to see if a charging station would work for them.
 As Veterans Day approaches on Friday, Nov. 11, Montgomery County is preparing to join the national “Operation Green Light” salute to veterans and the County’s Commission on Veterans Affairs is seeking additions to its virtual tribute to County veterans.
 The Montgomery County Government, and programs that impact County residents, will observe schedule and program changes for the observance of Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 11.
 The 14th “Tribute to America’s Veterans Concert" will be held starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, at American Legion Post 41 in Downtown Silver Spring. The event, which will feature Klezmer music and Django Jazz with Seth Kibel and the Kleztet, is free and open to everyone.
“Improbable Comedy,” a stand-up comedy show featuring military comics and veterans in a tribute to Veterans Day, will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn.

A free Community Shredding and Electronics Recycling event will take place at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Nov. 5. The event will be presented by the City of Gaithersburg, in partnership with the Gaithersburg Environmental Affairs Committee, Georgetown Paper and e-End. While the shredding services are free, food donations to support the efforts of the Gaithersburg HELP pantry also will be collected.

 The Montgomery County Department of Transportation is seeking up to 45 Montgomery County high school students to serve as “Vision Zero Youth Ambassadors.” The project-based learning program teaches teens leadership skills, outreach and engagement techniques to address traffic safety needs in their community. Applications are now being accepting. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, Nov. 30.
 Registration for Montgomery County Recreation’s winter classes and programs will open at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14. Registration for Bone Builders programs will open at 9 a.m.
 The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will begin its annual leaf vacuuming program on Monday, Nov. 7, and will continue collections through December in specified leaf collection areas. There will be two collections on each collection district street.
 Montgomery Parks has opened two of the four lanes of Little Falls Parkway for recreational use between Arlington Road and Dorset Avenue seven days a week. The space was created by reconfiguring the lanes on Little Falls Parkway so that two of the four lanes—on the east side of the median—are used for traffic with the two lanes west of the median being used for recreation.
‘The Path to Leadership: The Next Chapter’ Online Presentation Starting Monday, Nov. 7, Will Look at Influence of Women in Local Politics
“The Path to Leadership: The Next Chapter,” a Montgomery History free online presentation about the influence of Montgomery County women in the political arena pre- and post-suffrage, will be available for a one-week period starting Monday, Nov. 7.

 Seven featured films will be screened on Saturday, Nov. 19, as the Gaithersburg Arts Barn hosts its Independent Film Night. The screenings will begin at 7:30 p.m., with a question and answer session with the films’ creators following each.
Montgomery Parks will host an exciting lineup of special events and programs in November, including Maryland Emancipation Day, Drag Queen Story Hour, free Veterans Day skates and the opening of the annual winter favorite, Garden of Lights, at Brookside Gardens.
 Youth members of the LGBTQ+ community will tell their stories—and share the challenges they have faced—in a virtual town hall meeting sponsored by EveryMind from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
 The Montgomery County Community Action Agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is recruiting volunteers to become IRS-certified VITA tax preparers, schedulers, greeters, interpreters, quality reviewers and site coordinators for the upcoming tax season that runs from January through mid-April. The Internal Revenue Service requires that VITA volunteers be U.S. citizens, legal residents or otherwise reside legally in the U.S.
 The Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center has a new website that will help Montgomery County residents more easily find assistance about available government and nonprofit programs.
 Residents 18-and-older who are interested in electric scooter lessons will have the opportunity to attend a free clinic in the parking lot next to the Wheaton Ice Arena from 12:30-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. At the clinic, which is sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, participants will be able to take a test ride, learn safety tips and get details on basic scooter laws.
Montgomery County Public Libraries will offer free online workshops and one-on-one sessions geared toward assisting job seekers and entrepreneurs throughout November.
