 County Executive Marc Elrich discusses protests at the homes of Supreme Court justices in Montgomery County. In his message this week, he reveals details of a recent report that shows Montgomery residents and businesses are in a better tax situation as compared to elsewhere in the Washington Region. He addresses three programs that will have significant impact on the County’s future and tells how a new Police Accountability Board will make it easier to file complaints against police, if needed. The County Executive also provides an update on COVID-19 in the community, saying the infection level remains constant, but is not going away.

A new portal for filing complaints against County or municipal police officers in Montgomery County is now available through the County government website. The newly formed Police Accountability Board (PAB) will oversee complaints filed against the Montgomery County Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, City of Gaithersburg Police Department, City of Takoma Park Police Department, City of Rockville Police Department and Village of Chevy Chase Police Department and their officers.
 Montgomery County continues to vaccinate children ages 6 months to 5 years old. To date, nearly 5,000 children in this age group have been vaccinated. Parents are encouraged to protect their children and get them vaccinated.
 Montgomery County residents have several ways to get tested for COVID-19.
 Montgomery County’s Office of Consumer Protection is receiving inquiries from homeowners who are wondering if they need to subscribe and pay monthly fees to companies that claim to protect their homes from being stolen.
 Thursday nights are alive with music this summer in Downtown Silver Spring as the free “Silver Spring Thursday Night Concerts” series continues on Veterans Plaza. Concert series are scheduled for 7-9 p.m. each Thursday evening through Aug. 11. The next performance, on July 14, will feature the Latin pop sounds of Ocho de Bastos.
 The free, family-friendly “Evenings in Olde Towne” concert series will have performances on Thursday nights in July and September at the City Hall Concert Pavilion in Olde Towne Gaithersburg. All concerts will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. The next show will feature the Moxie Blues Band on Thursday, July 14.
County Executive Marc Elrich, Council President Gabe Albornoz, Councilmember Tom Hucker, members of the Montgomery County State Delegation and representatives from EDENS last week announced a new main “anchor” store would be part of the redeveloped Burtonsville Crossing Shopping Center. The shopping center, which is at a central location of the East County community, significantly has been vacant for a considerable length.
 The Montgomery County Board of Elections wants to ensure that mail-in ballot submitted for the upcoming Maryland primary election count. If a voter makes a mistake, and returns their ballot in time, the staff of the Board of Elections will try to contact them to remedy the issue. The Board of Elections has some suggestions to make sure mail-in ballots will be counted for the primary election, which will be held on Tuesday, July 19.
 Early voting in Montgomery County for the 2022 Gubernatorial Primary Election will be available at 14 early voting centers from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Thursday, July 7, through Thursday, July 14, including Saturday and Sunday. Montgomery County Department of Transportation Ride On bus service has several routes available to transport voters to the early voting centers located throughout the County.

 Gaithersburg’s Children’s Summer Concert Series continues at the City Hall Concert Pavilion on Wednesdays in July, with free performances from 10:30-11:15 a.m. The next performance will feature the music of Marsha and the Positrons on Wednesday, July 13.
 Gaithersburg’s Arts on the Green and A Taste for Murder Productions will present “Kill Again’s Island,” an interactive murder mystery complete with clues and a buffet of delectable sweet treats on Friday, July 15 (8 p.m.), and Thursday, July 16 (2 and 8 p.m.). The performances will be at the historic Kentlands Mansion.
 The Glenmont Forest Neighbors Civic Association (GFNCA) and Grandview Circle of Opportunities will join with the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Impact Silver Spring and other organizations for the return of the Glenmont Forest Community Block Party from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 10. This year’s event also will celebrate the Glenmont Forest Community Park’s new playground, pavilion and other added amenities.

 The award-winning images from the Maryland Photography Alliance will be on display through Sept. 5 at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg. The exhibition is part of “Photography Across the City,” which also includes displays at Kentlands Mansion and the Arts Barn.
 Workshops and one-on-one sessions geared toward assisting job seekers and entrepreneurs will be available throughout July. All workshops are free. Most are offered virtually. They are sponsored by Montgomery County Public Libraries.
