 Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich opens with an update on the tragic flooding that occurred in the County this week and how people can help.  More than 850,600 Montgomery County residents (95.4 percent) ages 12-and-over have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to statistics posted this week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). More than 771,200 County residents (86.5 percent) 12-and-over are fully vaccinated.
 The Montgomery County Government will observe numerous schedule changes for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 6.
 Montgomery County’s COVID-19 Information Portal provides a variety of breakdowns on how the virus has impacted the County. The statistics are updated to reflect the most recent reports from the State of Maryland during the health crisis. Among the information available is how many positive cases have been reported in each zip code in the County.
Several days remain in Maryland’s $1 million VaxU Scholarship Promotion, an incentive program to encourage 12-17-year-olds to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The initiative, jointly administered by the Maryland Department of Health and the Maryland Higher Education Commission, has provided $50,000 scholarships to 20 winners through weekly random drawings.

His story will be the focus at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, in “Benjamin Banneker: Man of Many Accomplishments,” which will be the next episode of the History Conversations series from Montgomery History.

Residents 18-and-older interested in lessons and safety clinics regarding e-scooters will have the opportunity to attend four free clinics in September and October sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Transportation.
September is “National Falls Prevention Month” and Montgomery County Recreation throughout the month will be offering multiple free activities and information sessions for seniors to increase awareness of falls. The programs will be available at a variety of facilities.
 “Businesses and Disaster Preparedness” will be the theme from noon-1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, when Montgomery County’s COVID-19 Economic Revitalization and Recovery program continues its series of virtual town hall meetings to keep businesses informed on strategies for doing business as the health crisis continues.
Applications are now being accepted to be a part of the annual Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade in Silver Spring. The County is looking for colorful and talented marching bands, artists, dance and gymnastic troupes, floats, sports teams, costumed characters, beauty queens, clowns, classic car clubs, community groups and other organizations to march in the parade. The parade will be held starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, in Downtown Silver Spring.
