Montgomery County Public Libraries Receives Three 2021 National Association of Counties Achievement Awards

Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) has received three National Association of Counties (NACo) awards for outstanding programs in 2021. The annual Achievement Award Program recognizes efforts by local jurisdictions that promote responsible, responsive and effective county government initiatives.

“Montgomery County Public Libraries receiving three NACo Achievement Awards is a testament to the innovative and creative ways they have continued to provide services to our Montgomery County residents throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “I am very pleased that all branches have now reopened to the public and appreciate our MCPL team continuing to provide much needed resources and programming to our community members.”

The NACo award-winning MCPL programs and initiatives include the following:

  • Virtual Programming @MCPL: Designed and implemented virtual programming at MCPL to expand access to early literacy resources; to strengthen workforce development; and to present topical, relevant community engagement programming for residents of Montgomery County.
  • Holds to Go!: Provided customers cost-free “contactless” borrowing of physical library materials during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Books & Food Sites: In partnership with Manna and Montgomery County Public Schools, MCPL distributed books to children at food giveaway sites.

“MCPL is proud to be recognized for the work we do every day and especially the work that enabled us to continue providing services and resources to residents during the pandemic,” said MCPL Director Anita Vassallo. “We are always trying to find effective models to provide next-level services and resources to the community and programming that excites and informs. These awards are an honor and a responsibility, and they inspire us to continue to find ways to enrich the lives of our County’s residents.”

Montgomery County Public Libraries offers free and equal access to services and resources that connect the people of Montgomery County to ideas and information which sustain and enrich their lives. For more information about library services, visit the MCPL website.
