ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 4, 2020—Newly elected Council leaders, Council President Tom Hucker and Council Vice President Gabe Albornoz will discuss their priorities for Montgomery County in 2021 including protecting public health and paving the way for economic recovery. Council President Hucker will provide information on new winterization assistance for local businesses who continue to suffer the economic impacts of the pandemic. He will also preview two new bills he is spearheading to enhance safety for children and protect tenants.
The Safer View for Kids Act would increase child safety by requiring owners or landlords of apartment or condominium buildings to install and maintain window guards if a child 10 years of age or younger lives in the home.
A second bill aimed at environmental protection and fire safety in tenant-occupied properties would require landlords to schedule the replacement of indoor mercury service regulators which regulate the flow of natural gas into the home.
The media availability is being held on Monday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. through Zoom for credentialed members of the media.
Members of the media must RSVP before 10 a.m. on Dec. 7 to Mirchaye Sahlu at Mirchaye.Sahlu@montgomerycountymd.gov to receive the Zoom login information.
