Caregiver Support Groups

Caregiver Support Groups

This month we include a diverse collection of caregiver support groups and education resources.

To ensure community members and paid care providers remain safe all groups are conducted virtually, using web-based or telephone systems.

Each month we encourage caregivers to give support groups a "try" and this is a reminder: popping into a virtual group is even more easy than in-person. You can maintain your privacy by switching off the video and gain valuable support in the comfort of your own home

Caregiver Special Events

Irrespective of Covid-19 there are still interesting special events taking place for caregivers in our region. These include a rich array of art based programs that will benefit caregivers and their loved ones.

Additionally many providers are gearing up to offer informative education programs this month. The County is partnering with ElderSAFE on a virtual event titled "Believing You Know What's Best: Understanding and Assisting in Cases of Hoarding and Self-Neglect with Older Adults".

Telephone and Online Programs

We continue to remind our readers of the outstanding telephone and online resources available in Montgomery County. This month we feature programs ranging from support groups, IT assistance through life long learning. 

REMINDER: Montgomery County's Covid Corp will continue to provide telephone and web-based IT assistance for older adults through October. Sign up now for an appointment.

If you are a caregiver please consider joining a virtual support group offered by: The Alzheimer's Association, Parkinson Foundation, Holy Cross Caregiver Resource Center to name a few.

Life Long Learning continues to be offered through Senior Planet and their diverse range of classes (now harnessing national presenters), Oasis Life and Learn Bethesda and Montgomery College.

The September edition of the County's Caregiver Podcast Series features two lively interviews with the inter-generational arts and culture non profit: Empowering the Ages that brings together youth and older adults for creative engagement, plus The Primary Care Coalition that is offering a series of virtual Compassion Fatigue Training sessions.

Click here to enjoy a bonus interview with Odile Brunetto the County's Chief of Aging and Disability Services. Dr Brunetto provides a timely update on County services for older adults and available supports still available.
