Wheaton Free Family ‘Sunday Funday’ Will Pop Up in Veterans Urban Park on Sunday, June 30

An empty park, a Sunday afternoon and some creative and some energetic thinking. The Wheaton Urban District Advisory Committee (WUDAC), Wheaton Urban District and Montgomery Parks will use all of that to partner in producing a free popup family day of activities from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, at Wheaton Veterans Urban Park.

Wheaton Veterans Urban Park is located at 11200 Amherst Avenue in Wheaton.

The afternoon will include music, lawn games, the availability of food from Green Plate Catering and beer from Brawling Bear Brewery.

In addition, Montgomery Planning will be collecting thoughts, suggestions and comments on “Thrive Montgomery 2050.” This will be the first update to the County’s General Plan in five decades. The two-year effort to shape Thrive 2050 will lead to a plan that will guide the County’s future over the next 30 years.

“I am excited to be a part of the creation of the first of what we on WUDAC hope will be a series of seasonal community pop up events inside the urban district that will both enliven our civic spaces and highlight our unique Wheaton community,” said William Jelen, chair of WUDAC.

The popup event will feature lawn games including corn hole, giant jenga, giant checkers,  face painting and a DJ. All activities are free.
