Montgomery County's Department of Environmental Protection seeks input for the sustainable management of County’s solid waste

Residents, business owners and other stakeholders can offer input through an online survey and open houses on September 19, 20 and 26

Montgomery County is a leader in solid waste management. While the County has achieved an overall recycling rate of around 60 percent (for residential and businesses combined), the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is constantly looking for ways to increase that rate. DEP is now seeking input from County residents and businesses on how to manage solid waste as part of the “Aiming for Zero Waste” Master Plan.

This plan will serve as the blueprint for the future sustainable management of solid waste including collection, processing and disposal.

“Montgomery County is a leader in implementing sustainable environmentally responsible solid waste services,” said County Executive Ike Leggett. “Zero waste is an ambitious goal, but with input from County residents and businesses, we can make great strides toward meeting it.”

Residents can offer their input on the plan by filling out the following survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/mocomaterialsmanagement.

In addition to the survey, DEP is hosting three open houses for residents, business representatives and other stakeholders to seek feedback on the future of the waste management system. Project team members will be available during the open houses to answer questions. The same information will be shared at each open house, which are scheduled for.:
