September is Falls Prevention Month

Community-Based Outpatient Clinic Opening in Montgomery County
The DC VA Medical Center will host the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new DC VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 10:30 am.  It is located at 15810 Gaither Road in Gaithersburg and has ample parking and easy access. 

It will be the first Department of Veterans Affairs community clinic in Montgomery County offering health care services to the more than 42,000 Veterans living in the County and other Veterans in the surrounding areas. The newly renovated building space will offer 11,600 square feet with room for primary-care and mental-health clinics as well as space for exams, telehealth, telemedicine, pharmacy, lab, patient education, hearing aid fittings and specialty care. The Commission on Veterans Affairs along with Senator Chris Van Hollen and Senator Ben Cardin staff have been negotiating with the VA to have this clinic established since 2011.

Hear the Latest about Metro, the ADA and “Abilities Ride”

Getting all around the County might be easier than you expect, especially if you take advantage of the Metro System and services such as Metro Access and Abilities Ride. Christian Blake, Director of ADA Policy and Planning for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), will speak about progress with Abilities Ride (the taxi alternative to Metro Access), WMATA’s efforts to improve safety for Metro passengers with visual impairment, and more.

Job Search Training Program for those who are 50+
Are you over age 50 and frustrated by your job search?  JCA’s Career Gateway Program can help you hone your resume, polish your networking and interviewing skills, use Internet job search resources more effectively, and turn your age and experience to your advantage.  Each session of the Career Gateway features 30 hours of small-group classroom instruction over five days, comprehensive take-home materials, practical exercises, and a long-term mentor – all for only $75!  Sessions run from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Optional employment-related tech training available, as well.

Montgomery County’s First Active Aging Week September 23 - 29
