Proposed Regulation for New Fire Fees Structure
This regulation eliminates the 10% technology fee which is in the current ER 12-12. The new regulation replaces the current complicated fees based on an hourly rate with proposed flat fees, and eliminates the current invoice method of fee collection. FCC permits and fees collection will be integrated with DPS' automation services. Proposed FCC fees are based on average time to process an application, review plans and documents, provide an inspection, and issue the permit. Fees will be payable through online services improving customer service. The proposed fee will provide a consistent and efficient method of matching revenue and costs of the FCC.
The proposed regulation for the new Fire Code Compliance Fees will be posted with the Montgomery County Register beginning on June 1, 2018.

Permitting Fees for FY19
Rates Adjusted by 3%
A 3% increase in fees will be applied to cover operating cost increases. The three percent adjustment will take effect on July 1, 2018. The DPS budget operates as an enterprise fund with fees structured to cover expenses and reserve policy.
Following four fee reductions in 2012-2015, including elimination of the 10% automation fee, and holding the reduced rates in 2016-2018, it is necessary to increase fees by 3% in FY2019 to cover increases in DPS costs. While CPI for these costs is 7% in
current dollars, DPS is holding the FY19 adjustment to 3%.
