Brain Power Event

Brain Power is a FREE community health fair featuring brainy activities for all ages! In honor of June being Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, it will comprise educational seminars and activities related to brain health, nutrition, exercise, martial arts, yoga, mental wellness, stress management, brainy games for memory and thinking skills, and sleep hygiene. Bethel World Outreach Church will "go purple" and host a cookout fundraiser for "The Longest Day" to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's disease in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association.  Click here for more information and to sign up to attend. 


June is a big month for the AARP Smart Driver Course 
Take advantage of the many opportunities this month to take the AARP Smart Driver course. Participants will tune up driving skills, learn safe driving strategies and update knowledge of the rules of the road. The instructor will provide information about normal age-related physical changes and how to adjust driving to allow for these changes. After completing the class, students will receive a certificate.

Some insurance companies operating in Maryland consider drivers who take the course qualified for reduced or discounted premiums. $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members. Do you know about "Senior Planet Montgomery?"
County officials recently attended the graduation ceremony for Senior Planet Montgomery’s Class of 2017. Senior Planet Montgomery is part of the County’s ultraMontgomery initiative. The program aims to teach older adults to use technology to increase self-sufficiency and grow the market for digital services among the 20 percent of the County that is 60 years old or older, and to expand employment and entrepreneurship among older adults. This is the second cadre of older adult technology graduates who have completed a 10-week technology course.
