Move More Montgomery Festival

The event is FREE and open to the public and dogs.
The field-day type festival, will feature a community walk, sport and fitness demonstrations, active performances and mini-classes, interactive wellness booths and the Fido Fitness Arena.  The event will be held rain or shine.  The festival is also the culminating event for the Move More Montgomery 100 Mile Challenge.  Residents who completed the challenge by walking or running 100 miles in 100 days will be recognized at the event.  For more information, click here or call 240-777-6946.

9th Annual Active Aging Expo
Monday, May 8, 2017 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

A FREE event day filled with energy, educational talks, interactive demonstrations, facials, massages, manicures, and preventive screenings. Fun activities include caricature drawings, temporary tattoos and a photo booth.  The day will feature a variety of speakers covering an array of topics including “Estate Planning and Elder Law Essentials,” “Staying Safe Online,” “Save Your Memory & Your Mind,” and “Age Friendly Montgomery.” Fitness demonstrations and other interactive activities include Balance, Yoga, LaughingRX, and Painting with Acrylics.

Not-for-profit organizations with information on health and wellness as well as businesses that specialize in serving older adults will also be on hand. Please note that the Benjamin Gaither Center will be closed on May 8 as all staff will be involved in this event.  No registration is necessary. Just show up and be prepared to change your life. We encourage everyone to bring a canned good to be donated to Manna Food Center. For information, please contact 301-258-6380.

Design for Life provides accessible homes for all ages and lifestyles.  Montgomery County provides a Property Tax Credit to help you do it. Educate residents and building professionals about the Design for Life Property Tax Credit Incentives to increase accessible homes in Montgomery County.  Meet local organizations and builders showcasing accessible features and homes for all ages and stages. Aging in Montgomery County: Building a Safer Community Together

This FREE ECHO (Empowering Community Health Organizations) workshop aims to raise awareness on elder abuse and provide resources to improve the safety of older adults in their communities.  Representatives from various Montgomery County and state agencies will discuss issues of abuse, neglect, and exploitation (particularly financial exploitation) among older adults.   Learn about warning signs and prevention strategies.  A resource fair will be held from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm where local organizations and programs will be in attendance to provide information and resources for older adults.

The Senior Connection Makes it Easy to Say YES to Volunteering
The Senior Connection relies on volunteers to drive seniors to medical appointments or to help with grocery shopping. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a big difference in someone’s life.

Choose when to volunteer through a web-based scheduling system. Training and liability coverage are provided.
