Maryland’s Third Annual Statewide Brownfield Conference a Resounding Success
The Maryland Department of Planning (MDP) would like to extend its sincerest thanks to the many participants, presenters, and staff who made our 2023 brownfields conference a success!
The live conference, entitled Landing a Brownfield, was held on November 15 at the Maryland Department of the Environment’s (MDE) Baltimore headquarters at the Montgomery Park Business Center. Montgomery Park is a 52-acre adaptive reuse brownfield redevelopment including both the historic Montgomery Ward Catalog House building and surrounding grounds. The conference included a tour of the building by owner and developer Sam Himmelrich, Jr. and a video compilation of Maryland brownfield case studies by Richard Garner of MDE.

Review: Eastern Shore Land Conservancy Forests and Forestry Workshop
Logging and forestry are commonly misconstrued as being more harmful than helpful to the environment. But this isn’t always the case. Last week’s forestry workshop, hosted by the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy (ESLC), highlighted the many ways that sustainable forestry in our state can positively benefit both the environment and the economy. Growth currently exceeds removal for Maryland’s forests and Maryland’s forestry sector is ten times larger than the seafood sector, contributing $3.3 billion to the state economy.
