Award to Recognize the County's Purchased
Conservation Easement Pilot Program
(December 14, 2023) BALTIMORE, MD – Planning Secretary Rebecca L. Flora, AICP, LEED ND / BD+C, will present a 2023 Maryland Sustainable Growth Award in the Preservation/Conservation category to Howard County for their Purchased Conservation Easement Pilot Program. In 2022, the county, in partnership with the Howard County Conservancy, launched the pilot program - the first of its kind in Maryland - that specifically targets nonprofit property owners with environmentally sensitive land and provides them with financial incentives to protect environmentally sensitive areas on their property.
