Emergency Commission on Sixth Congressional District Gerrymandering Will Review Congressional District Boundary Plans Proposed by the Public

(February 13, 2019) Annapolis, MD – The Emergency Commission on Sixth Congressional District Gerrymandering (Emergency Commission) today announced guidelines to allow the public to submit congressional boundary plans.

On November 26, 2018, Governor Larry Hogan signed Executive Order 01.01.2018.29  creating the Emergency Commission on Sixth Congressional District Gerrymandering, a nonpartisan commission to comply with a federal court order requiring Maryland to draw new boundaries for the 6th Congressional District.

​The nine-member Emergency Commission is charged with developing new 6th Congressional District boundaries in an open and transparent manner to address all constitutional violations.

Three public meetings were held in Frederick County (January 14), Montgomery County (January 31) and Allegany County (February 6); the meetings were also live-streamed.

To propose a plan to be reviewed by the Emergency Commission, please go to https://governor.maryland.gov/free-and-fair/ and click on Propose a Plan.

Plans can be submitted through February 27 and will be reviewed before the Emergency Commission approves and certifies a proposed redistricting plan and map with adjusted boundary lines on March 4.
